Here's some news from our neighboring state of Tennessee:

*According to WDEF News 12, Lt. Gov. Ramsey (R) says the state "may revisit dog fighting laws" in the aftermath of the Michael Vick case.

*Ramsey also says he is "thinking this summer about running for governor in 2010" and that he believes he "would be one of the handful of front-runners on the Republican side."  Gov. Phil Bredesen (D) "cannot run for a third term under the state's constitution."  Several candidates already have been mentioned to succeed Bredesen, including former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R), U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp (R), Rep. Lincoln Davis (D), and former state House Majority Leader Kim McMillan.

*A heat wave in the state has led to "at least 13 deaths."  In addition, "Public schools in Nashville closed early Monday because of the heat, which was expected to hit 101 degrees by Wednesday."

*This past Thursday night, former Sen. Howard Baker held a fundraiser for "the Friends of Fred Thompson committee at his Huntsville home in hopes of bringing still more area money into the Thompson till."  According to knoxnews.com, "The Thompson committee reported earlier this month that it had raised $3.46 million, including about $1.6 million coming from Tennessee."
