Corey Stewart "Silencing Dissent"

Today's Potomac News criticizes Corey Stewart, chairman of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, for "sen[ding] out a warning letter to the Prince William Human Rights Commission."  According to the Potomac News, "Stewart's letter told the commission that its role was not to second guess the board's policy decisions," in this case on "the county's recent anti-illegal immigration resolution."  The paper asserts that "Stewart and the rest of the Board of County Supervisors have missed a valuable opportunity by seeking to silence the commission."  And it concludes:

Government always works better when there is more, not less discussion. Fear of opposing viewpoints is not what we want to hear from our elected representatives.

The Board of County Supervisors should fully support the Human Rights Commission and what it is doing.

I couldn't agree more.  Of course, given that Stewart on his website brags first and foremost about how he "Cracked Down on Illegal Immigration," I guess I'm not too surprised at his bully behavior in this case.  Message to Stewart: silencing dissent is what they do in third-world dictatorships, not in America.  Ironically, I wouldn't be surprised if many of the immigrants you like to bash understood that better than you do!

[UPDATE: The Washington Post blasts Stewart for running a "Politburo."]
