Ever Have That Nightmare Where You're Naked in Public?

Via NLS. Some enterprising "private citizens" have created His Excellency's New Clothes, to draw attention to the Governor's exposed position on Abuser fees.  Whether he's been hoodwinked by a couple of flim-flam artists named Morgan Griffith and Bill Howell, or whether he's just having one of those really bad dreams, the Governor may be feeling something of a draft about now.  Somebody got a bathrobe?

That's awesome! (Eric - 7/30/2007 6:10:50 PM)
Although, to be frank, I'd say the Gov needs to get a little exercise before doing his next news conference.

Really good work by someone to put that site together.

"All we are saying... (hereinva - 7/30/2007 6:18:14 PM)
is... 'Give FEES a Chance' .....FAT CHANCE

"LEADERS SAY GIVE FEES A CHANCE BAD DRIVERS PUBLIC OUTCRY AGAINST POLICY"

And from Mr. Howell's 6/27/07  OP-ED in Free Lance Star:
"The abuser-fee component of the Comprehensive Transportation Funding and Reform Act of 2007 won widespread, bipartisan support because it has a proven record, provides relief to hard-pressed commuters, and will improve the conditions on our roadways by encouraging safe driving practices."

A plan from David Englin (Dianne - 7/30/2007 6:56:53 PM)
In your Somebody got a bathrobe? link I found the following commentary from Del. Englin.  The last paragraph was the most interesting:

However, it's clear from the public response to these abuser fees that most mainstream Virginians agree with those of us who opposed this policy. Therefore, if I am re-elected this November, I will sponsor legislation to repeal these fees and to replace the $65 million in revenue we will lose with a penny per gallon "transportation user fee" that drivers - from Virginia and out of state - will pay when they buy gas. This modest proposal will remove one of the more objectionable elements of the transportation package, allow "No Tax Pledge" House Republicans still to claim they opposed taxes, and still keep Virginia moving forward.

Sounds good to me....
