John Miller, Democratic candidate for State Senate in the 1st District, is off to a blazing start. The pace is quick, but effort is focused, determined, and dignified. John Miller is doing things right.
Only three weeks into his campaign John Miller has assembled a terrific staff; his campaign has gotten an office together; they've put up a website; they put on a very impressive and successful fundraiser with Governor Kaine; John has collected lots of school supplies for teachers (John's foremost issue is insuring that Virginia has a world-class education system, and he is asking for his supporters to donate school supplies for teachers--- thanks for agreeing to pose for the picture, John); and now the Miller campaign is providing a special opportunity for volunteers to speak with voters alongside John and Senator Creigh Deeds tomorrow.
More beneath the fold...
I'll be out knocking on doors tomorrow speaking to voters on behalf of John Miller and hope you will too. If you're worried that you won't know what to say, don't be. Miller for Senate Field Director Jennifer Koch will give a training session beforehand and will make sure you know what you need to know to be successful.
I always have fun talking to voters at the doors, and you'd be surprised how kind the large majority of people are to volunteers at their doors. Plus, John is an easy sell.
I'd love to see some of you out there tomorrow. Here are the details of the event:

Rolling... (Susan Mariner - 7/27/2007 7:25:49 PM)
This is going to be a great campaign. People are really excited about John Miller here in Hampton Roads.
Early supporter of Senator Webb is the right choice for his constituency (dsvabeachdems - 7/27/2007 7:40:23 PM)
John Miller is down to earth and will easily win over his constituency. He and his wife, Sharon Kitchen Miller were among the every earliest Webb supporters in Hampton Roads, holding a meet and greet for Webb's then seemingly quixotic campaign even before the primary.
He has hit his own campaign road running and there is no doubt that his opponent is perplexed. While John enjoyed and was noticeably comfortable among the outspoken at the Blogs United conference dinner a weekend or two ago, his opponent was a no-show.
With some hard work, his can be among the four seats that Senator Creigh Deeds predicts will give the Democrtats a majority in the Senate next year.

John Miller is a great guy... (lgb30856 - 7/27/2007 8:27:51 PM)
He cares about our teachers and our students. What a unique concept.
I will be there tomorrow to help him along with creigh deeds.
We wish John and Sharron the best.
#1 race (Vivian J. Paige - 7/27/2007 9:25:12 PM)
Governor Tim Kaine said at the fundraiser that this is the #1 race in Virginia! John is a fantastic candidate and picking up this seat is going to be sweet!
John Miller for Virginia Senate...HOW DID WE GET SO LUCKY!! (ncmcpherson - 7/28/2007 12:01:43 AM)
We NEED John Miller in the Senate! He's a forward thinking man with a full sense of Virginia's history. John is the right man to continue to build a stronger Commonwealth for our future and for the generations to come. His dedication to education is well focused on what is needed to provide educational opportunities for our children which will enable them to compete in the global market and become better citizens of the world. John will endeavor to build a consensus with all Senators to do what is RIGHT for Virginia. Having Sharron by his side is beneficial to us all. They are a great couple ready to serve all VIRGINIANS and we're fortunate to have them living in Hampton Roads!! Supporting John Miller is supporting a better future for Virgina.
What are the demographics of this district? (jiacinto - 7/29/2007 5:26:09 PM)
Do the Democrats have a realistic chance of winning?
There is a GOP (Newport News Dem - 7/29/2007 7:23:28 PM)
lean to the district. Kaine barely bested Kilgore (are the 3% Potts voters Miler's?) and Allen beat Webb 52.5 to 47.5.
John is the type of candidate with enough crossover appeal to attract moderate republicans, especially when the GOP candidate is nuts!
