There's been plenty of debate on abusive driver fees lately - so much so, in fact, that Del. Scott Lingamfelter can't seem to figure out which side of the debate he's on:Well! What could have changed in that one week? Maybe he commissioned a study of the issue? Or perhaps the state of our highways changed dramatically in 7 days? Or maybe, just maybe, he's sacrificing intellectual honesty to get on the popular side of the issue."The bottom line is if you are a safe driver with only minor infractions, you have nothing to fear from this law. But real abusers - those who have a chronic record of dangerous driving or who have taken the lives of others - will and should pay for their reckless behavior."
That was Del. Lingamfelter in the Potomac News on July 13, 2007, "Setting the record straight on abusive drivers."
But wait! Just over a week later:
"On Monday, however, Del. L. Scott Lingamfelter (R-Prince William) joined a growing list of legislators calling for repeal, saying the measures are 'beyond repair.'" (Washington Post, 7/24/07)
You know, I think I'm going with the last option there. After all, he is a Virginia Republican.
I agree voters in the 31st District and especially Prince William County are ready for the positive change Bill Day and other Democrats will help bring to PWC as their elected officials.
Virginia Democrats, independents, and responsible Republicans should do everything possible to help elect Democrat Bill Day and elect new leadership for PWC and our Commonwealth on November 6th.
