Webb, Clinton, Byrd and Bayh Call for Hearing on Redeployment of U.S. Forces

I'm very glad to see this, especially after the Pentagon told Sen. Clinton that even ASKING about this subject "reinforces enemy propaganda."  That's despicable, and I'm glad to see Sen. Webb joining with Sen. Clinton (plus Senators Byrd and Bayh) in not taking this crap from the Cheney Chickenhawks.  But maybe there's method to the Bush-Cheney madness.  After all, how can we ever get out of Iraq if we don't even PLAN for redeployment?  Verrrry clever, eh?

Once again, the "up is down/black is white/war is peace" Bush Republicans make us feel like we're in Alice in Wonderland.  Unfortunately, insanity is reality in this Administration..  Can we start impeachment hearings right now?

War is Peace, Lies are Truth. This is 1984 and Orwell wrote the script. Having successfully stymied absolutely any significant legislation or even debate in the Senate through filibustering, then claiming that Democrats are a do-nothing Congress because they produce no legislation, apparently the Bushies are EMBOLDENED now to refuse any cooperation by any department of the executive branch with Congress. Not only does Department of Defense sneer at Congresssional requests, the Justice Department will not enforce any contempt of Congress decisions or subpoenas. The Constitution is now completely shredded. Could any attemt to begin investigation for impeachment even be successful? Only one way to find out...

They are methodically laying the groundwork for a late '08 takeover.
They appear to be incompetent and stupid, but there is method to the madness.

These people know they have destroyed the Republican party for years to come.  Even with the help of big media, it may be hard for Republicans to get elected to any office in America if things continue as they are at home and abroad. CheneyBush obviously does not care.  I wonder why?  As Ideological as these  people are, why would they turn the country over to us common folk for the next 20 years or so?

Remember, in 2004 "someone" ran the idea of suspending the presidential election through the mainstream press, should a national emergency occur.  There was no outrage from the citizens.  We were too busy buying stuff and following celebrity.

If a real or "staged" terrorism event should occur, who will stop these guys from declaring martial law, disbanding Congress, and suspending the Constitution?  Not the DOJ, it is totally politicized and controlled by ChenyBushCo. Not the DOD, as noted above the Pentagon is run by Cheney's people and lead by one of the Bush family house servants.

Congress will be powerless to stop a coup without the help of at least one of these branches of government.  Democrats AND Republicans should be trying to prepare for this by opening up back channels to military leaders and law enforcement people.

We must hope that our military leaders take their constitutional oaths more seriously than their allegiance to one man or one ideology.

Remember Sara Thomson's slip of the tongue about her "oath to the president"?  Leahy was quick to remind her that her oath was to the Constitution.  She smirked at the idea.  She spoke the truth in the first place. We have executive, judicial and defense departments full of these Cheney/Bush commissars who do not believe in democracy.  People who are loyal to party and leader above country.

Basically, I agree (Teddy - 7/25/2007 9:29:08 AM)
that the pieces are in place for such an event.  The Nazis gave as much and as explicit notice of their intentions, and then there was Krystallnacht. We today certainly are getting all the typical signals on terrorist threats," and we do have the recently issued executive order on "succession" which turns the president into a dictator.

All that is missing, it would seem, is the decision, i.e., the will to proceed.  That, and an assurance that the Courts would not intervene, nor the military. As for Congress, it has been rendered utterly toothless (unless, as you say, there are some high-ranking military who would support Congress. Ha). Do not fortget, at least twenty-five percent of the public still believes Bush is doing a good job, and would support him in anything.

On the other hand, desperate as bad-boy Bush is to preserve his legacy and prove to the world he has been right, I mean correct, in everything, he also is clearly getting a bit tired of this gig--- the first thing he's done where he could not skip out when the going got tough... he's indicated with some relief more than once that Iraq will be left for his successor.  Maybe HE would not want to become Dictator for Life.

Or, he may be planning on declaring a national emergency and then retiring in favor of a successor named by him (say, Brother Jeb? Or Dick Cheney?)  Succession is such a problem when you have a dictatorship, you know.
