Webb and Habeas Corpus

One of the most important safeguards of our freedom is the writ of Habeas Corpus.  This is the constitutional guarantee that we can go to court to argue against unlawful imprisonment.  The founders of this country thought this right so important that they put this statement in our constitution:  "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it" (Article 1, Section 9).

Bush has worked diligently to deny us that right (see for example this transcript of a Keith Olbermann show.)

A bill has been introduced in the Senate to restore this right to us.  It has at least 23 co-sponsors.  I was surprised to read in Cooks and Liars that Senator Webb has not yet singed on to the bill.  I join Crooks and Liars in urging Democrats to write to Webb, and ask him if he will go on record as supporting our right to Habeas Corpus.
