The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee raised $17.6 million from April through June, according to figures to be filed with the Federal Election Commission. The National Republican Senatorial Committee reported raising $8.6 million in the same period.[...]
As Democrats seek to expand their narrow majority in the Senate, the party committee far exceeds the amount of money Republicans have at their disposal, reporting a cash-on-hand balance of $20.4 million with a debt of $4.5 million. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has reported a cash balance of $5.5 million with no debt.
Wow, that's a huge advantage for Democrats at this point. And it gets even huger when you consider this: "In the 2008 Congressional elections, 12 Democratic senators will be up for re-election, compared with 22 Republicans." That's right, the Republicans right now have only $5.5 million to defend 22 Republican Senators, while the Democrats have $15.9 million (subtracting debt) to defend 12 Democratic Senators. Just for fun, that averages out to $250,000 per Republican Senator, $1.3 million per Democratic Senator. Those are the kind of numbers I like to see!
Then, there's the way the parties spend their money. Don't forget how the Democrats have poured millions into the coffers of dumb-dumber-dumbest big media buys through the same old favorite consultants, and the Republicans have frugally and prudently micro-targeted chosen voter demographics through many different and competing consultants. We can only hope and pray that the Democrats will be spending their newfound largesse with greater intelligence and class than they have shown in the past.
