Innovate away from foreign oil

In recent interview with the chief economist of the International Energy Agency talks about a production oil peak:

If Iraqi production does not rise exponentially by 2015, we have a very big problem, even if Saudi Arabia fulfills all its promises.

We are in a world where new oil production is increasing difficult to bring online.  Every year we consume a cubic mile of oil.
