Feder Raises Over $110,000 in First Month of Run Against WolfMcLean, VA - Judy Feder has received an outpouring of grassroots support since signaling that she will make a second bid to unseat 14-term Rep. Frank Wolf, once again demonstrating widespread desire for change in Washington. Supporters have contributed over $110,000 in only one month to Feder's campaign in a strong indication of her early momentum.
In 2006, Feder became the first credible candidate to mount a challenge to Frank Wolf during his quarter century in Congress, mobilizing a vigorous grassroots campaign and raising an unprecedented $1.6 million. Though Feder entered the race a mere 10 months before Election Day, she cut Wolf's margin of victory in half from 2004, revealing growing discontent with the longtime incumbent. Feder begins with twice as much time before Election Day this time around, and this early momentum shows strong desire to elect Feder the next representative from Virginia's 10th District.
This is highly encouraging for Democrats' chances of defeating Frank Wolf next year. Very, very impressive!
P.S. At this rate, Feder would raise far more money than she raised in 2006. Watch out Wolf!
But as we've discussed already ad nauseum she had everything going for her in '06 and couldn't muster up much of a fight, so why should we expect something different or better this time?
2) Feder is starting earlier this time, and is already raising money like gangbusters. At this rate, she'll have far more to spend than last time around.
3) Wolf has had two more years to defend the indefensible - the Iraq War, first and foremost. Wolf also has had an increasing number of strange moments, like his rant about how we're in 1938 again, and Hitler's about to invade. Uh huh.
4) The district continues to change, with more people moving in all the time. Many of these people don't know Frank Wolf and are either Democrats or Independents, making the district increasingly receptive to a Decmoratic pickup there.
5) Frank Wolf has a Republican opponent for the first time in decades. Whether or not this ends up being a serious challenge, it indicates that there's some discontent within Republican ranks. If that grows or gets out of hand, Wolf could be in big trouble.
Of course, that opposition does explain how it is she decided she had to refile in May after she filed in January.
