This is hilarious: Rep. Thelma Drake (R-VA) almost literally runs away from a veteran with a question about her stance on the Iraq War. She says she has no time to answer, right after spending TONS of time listening sympathetically to a woman's complaints about taxes. Pitiful.
Although, to Thelma's credit, she was somewhat consistent in blowing off both of them. After listening to the long tax complaints Thelma's words of wisdom were that the woman mixed up local and federal taxes. Then she steps up with a "ball isn't in my court" answer to the war question.
Ah, our tax dollars (federal, that is) hard at work. Thanks Thelma.
until the woman brought up Iraq. Once the woman said "Iraq" and "my tax money" with close proximity, her patience for the woman ran out.
If Iraq to Republican representatives what garlic is to vampires?
Love the Body Language, Thelma (Susan P. - 7/9/2007 6:53:53 PM)
Especially the scratching in the middle of the long talk about taxes. And the scolding tone. "Uh, we're leaving."
He should have asked "you mean Iraq?"
Running from Bush (samrasoul - 7/9/2007 11:20:07 PM)
In September they all will be running from Bush in hopes of salvaging a their own re-elections....but we will not let them off the hook this time....due punishment for not working for Americans.
One more comment on youtube and representatives (Hugo Estrada - 7/9/2007 11:22:14 PM)
I just love it how youtube makes it impossible for our representatives to deny their rude and condescending behavior towards citizens. Just a few years ago, this story would be probably blogged, and Drake's office would deny that it ever happened, stressing how she always addresses constituents, and especially veterans, with total respect.
Now everyone can see their awful behavior documented and without a way of denying it.
I hope that whoever runs against Drake uses this footage in their ads against her.
Please tourists, look at what they elect in Virginia Beach.
Send this bitch directly to the front lines in Iraq. You don't have to be a 21 year old poor kid from the hills of North Carolina to die from a 10.00 bomb, that role can be played by a 50 year old women as well.
Our future is our young, lets send the boomers like Thelma (and me) to be IED fodder.

It's embarrassing sometimes to be from Hampton Roads sometimes (Susan P. - 7/10/2007 6:25:47 PM)
Thelma Drake, Nick Rerras, Leo Wardrup, and John Welch -- those are the main reasons. Thelma's not 50, though, she's 61. She's old enough to know better than to spew the garbage and slime she emits. And she's old enough to respond to a citizen merely asking her a question about an important public policy, particularly after she impugned the courage and integrity of anyone who disagrees with Bush and Cheney. Personally, I think she needs to stroll through a Baghdad marketplace, as early and as often as possible.
