This Blog Rating Thing is @#%$^!@'ed Up

I notice that several Virginia blogs have found a site called What's My Blog Rated?" Seems like harmless fun at first glance, but...
I went to "What's My Blog Rated?" and started typing in different URLs. The first one that I found interesting was this an "R" rating for the Virginia Partisans. Why, you might ask? Well, according to "What's My Blog Rated?", it's because the word "gay" appears 9 times, the word "lesbian" 7 times, and the word "gays" 1 time. That's right, according to "What's My Blog Rated?", being part of a GLBT rights organization gets you an "R" rating.
By the way, Daily Kos is rated "R" because it contains the words "kill," "dick" (as in Cheney?), and "ass." Even better, "Pam's House Blend", the site that was voted the best LGBT site on the web in 2005, gets an NC-17 (again, it uses the evil word "gay" 20 times, "pain" 7 times, "sex" 5 times, etc.). In contrast, the rabidly right-wing blog, "MichelleMalkin.com", gets a "G" rating, as does the gay-bashing AnnCoulter.com!
Great stuff, huh?

Oh shit I better stop saying fuck all the goddamn time. (WillieStark - 7/2/2007 1:01:55 PM)
Sorry Lowell. I hope this does not reflect badly upon this site.
Damn, cut the shit out! (Lowell - 7/2/2007 1:04:31 PM)
Well, there goes RK's rating...down the tubes with the pro-gay sites! LOL
What a crock. (kestrel9000 - 7/2/2007 1:30:38 PM)
I just put in the url of a hardcore amateur p0rn0 site with the word "blog" in its name, and it returned a PG-13.
Bwahahahahahahahahahaha.
Free Republic gets an R.
As does LGF.
And MSOC is rated G!
I'm sure she would be MORTIFIED.
Mary Scott is a "G" (Lowell - 7/2/2007 4:32:19 PM)
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, that's f-ing hilarious! :)
too much fun (kestrel9000 - 7/2/2007 2:01:12 PM)
One of my finer
Daily Kos rants:
Well, yeah........>;)
If my children were reading a blog (Silence Dogood - 7/2/2007 3:27:38 PM)
I suppose I wouldn't want them to read one that used the word "gay" as an insult. "Daily Kos was rated R? Man, that's so gay." Ironically I think Virginia Partisans, Pam's House Blend et. al. would agree with the spirit in which that particular parameter in the rating software was intended, though the way is actually more insulting than using "gay" as a perjorative. And obviously that's kinda fucked up.
Oops. ;-)
And I'm A PG-17 (AnonymousIsAWoman - 7/2/2007 5:00:49 PM)
The reason given is that I used guns 4 times and hurt 4 times in my blog. So if I said "getting shot with a gun hurts," there goes my rating?
I think this is meant to show the limits and the ridiculousness of the filtering software out there.
That was PG-13 - sorry, slip of the fingers (AnonymousIsAWoman - 7/2/2007 5:01:31 PM)
Rated by, uh, whom? (Teddy - 7/2/2007 6:31:47 PM)
Sounds like thin edge of the wedge to me, looking at the ratings which are quoted, meaning: censorship comes in various guises. Where do you suppose it goes from here?
