Great Quote by Mudcat on Mark Warner

Dave "Mudcat" Saunders gets the quote of the day award for the following gem, from the Moonie Washington Times:
"Ronald Reagan could come to life and run against Mark Warner in Virginia, and he ain't going to beat him," said Dave "Mudcat" Saunders, a Democratic strategist who worked on Mr. Warner's campaign for governor in 2001 and now works on the presidential campaign of former Sen. John Edwards, North Carolina Democrat.
I agree with Mudcat. The only question is, what will Mark Warner do? According to Warner, he has been pressed to run for U.S. Senate, but " I have also received an awful lot of urgings about taking another crack at the governorship." Mark Warner adds that his decision will largely hinge upon whether John Warner decides to retire from the U.S. Senate ("'I have enormous respect for Senator Warner, and it would be hard for me to imagine'" challenging him"). John Warner is expected to announce his decision in September. Stay tuned...

VP or Gov. (Adam Malle - 7/2/2007 9:27:15 AM)
VP or Governor? the senate would not the best place for him. Warner is best suited in an executive position as the man in charge. As Gov. he would reclaim that role as VP he would be in position to become President in 2016 and all but assure us the Whitehouse for 16 years. I will support him where ever he feels compelled to serve.
Just a thought but what about a duel senate/vp run like in 00?. It would insure the democrats the seat then Kaine could pick his replacement.
I'm kind of rooting for Governor myself. (Lowell - 7/2/2007 9:30:20 AM)
But I'll support Mark Warner whatever he decides to do.

Governor is the perfect place for him. (WillieStark - 7/2/2007 11:21:26 AM)
He did a great job there and would again. Although I also think he is the best shot to beat any Republican who may run if John Warner does not.
Obama/Warner 08 n/t (sndeak - 7/2/2007 12:00:47 PM)
I'd like to see another Senator Warner (Doug in Mount Vernon - 7/2/2007 12:42:43 PM)
Besides, I think Deeds and Moran will make excellent candidates for Governor and he will give us some needed cushion in the US Senate. I am not sure I agree that Mark wouldn't do well or isn't well-suited for the Senate.
I think Mark loves policy and his leadership and propensity for executive style leadership may actually be served well in the US Senate if the Democrats retain control.
I prefer Senator (Teddy - 7/2/2007 8:27:03 PM)
for several reasons, such as:
1) We need another Democratic United States Senator to be sure the Senate doesn't flip republican.
2) We need to develop a deeper bench of rising Democrats in the Commonwealth, and the way to do that is to elect good Democrats not only as Governor but as Attorney General, and so on--- why put a ceiling on the talent we've got coming up? Warner as Gov again would stifle the current of young good Democratic talent coming up (Brian, Creigh, whoever).
3) Moreover, I really believe that Warner might find that a second run around the governor track would not be as rewarding or as much fun as the first time when he pretty much blind-sided the repubs. This time they'd be ready and waiting for him, and would have super reasons to hamper him in every way, so as to cut short his political career (just as we did to George Allen). In order to continue the good government of Warner-Kaine we need only see to it that another good Democrat wins, and that doesn't mean it has to be Warner on a second tour.
