Go Joe Bouchard, that is.  Bouchard is running against Republican Chris Stolle for the House of Delegates in the 83rd District (Virginia Beach). According to Bouchard's website:

Joe graduated with distinction from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received a Master of Arts degree in National Security Affairs from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Doctorate from Stanford University. He remained in active military service for 27 years serving aboard destroyers and frigates and was Commanding Officer of the destroyer USS Oldendorf (DD 972).

In addition:

Joe serves on the boards of numerous civic and business associations such as the Virginia Maritime Association, Hampton Roads Partnership, Civic Leadership Institute, Future Hampton Roads, and the Cypress Point Civic Association. His efforts on behalf of Hampton Roads include protecting military bases from closure, promoting economic development and robust growth of trade through the port, and enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of local governments, particularly their ability to cooperate regionally for the common good and to spend tax dollars more wisely.

Very impressive, this should be a great race!

The sitting Delegate (Teddy - 6/29/2007 3:17:50 PM)
in the 83rd is, I believe, Leo Wardrup. I find him listed as being on Appropriations Committee (Chair was Callahan)  and Rules (Chair is Spealer Howell), two of the more powerful committees, so he has undoubtedly been considered good in bringing home the bacon to the 83rd. Where was Wardrup on the funding for the transportation bill, do you suppose? On base closing? On drilling offshore for oil?

What are Joe's issues and why is he running? I am delighted to find yet another military person who has seen the light: that republicans are all mouth and no follow through in supporting the military, in contrast to how supportive they are of the military contractors.

Wardrup retired and endorsed Carolyn Weems. (Lowell - 6/29/2007 5:36:19 PM)
Chris Stolle won anyway.

Let's Edit That a Little. (Susan P. - 6/29/2007 7:36:25 PM)
From: "Wardrup retired and endorsed Carolyn Weems.  Chris Stolle won anyway."

To: "Wardrup retired and endorsed Carolyn Weems.  As a result, Chris Stolle won."

Ha, good line! (Lowell - 6/29/2007 7:58:26 PM)

Wardrup Transportation Chair (Teddy - 6/29/2007 3:38:26 PM)
I discovered with a little more research. So he is no doubt responsible for the wonderful, nicely funded, sensible transportation bill recently passed. Go! Joe! Go! Joe!
