Memo to Republicans: if you're going to steal from a Democrat, make sure it's not a former NFL Quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up. Translation: You DO NOT intimidate him.
Last Wednesday evening, Louie Gohmert walked by the office of freshman Congressman Heath Shuler, after they had closed shop for the night, and lifted a sign displayed outside the office entrance. The sign was one that Blue Dog Democrats, like Shuler, display to highlight the federal deficit and what it's costing the average American.
Gohmert then proceded to give a speech on the House floor criticizing the Democrats spending habits, with the stolen sign as a backdrop. Of course Gohmert says that he later returned the sign, so he was just borrowing it.
Hey Louie, you Republicans like 'strict constructionists' right? What's the law call taking something and returning it later? Answer: Stealing.
Overreacting to a political stunt only tends to make the stunt work better.
I wouldn't mind if every Congressman and Senator, regardless of party, was required to wear that sign around his or her neck, 24/7.
