a) getting a sloppy, wet kiss from George W. Bush?
b) going hunting with "Deadeye" Dick Cheney?
c) being serenaded by Trent Lott's hideous barber shop quartet?
d) all of the above?
The point is, why would anyone want to be endorsed by NOVABizPAC, "dedicated to the collusion collision of Northern Virginia business, government and politics."
Remember, this is the same PAC that endorsed Jerry Kilgore for Governor ("because he demonstrated stronger, more consistent support for the pro-business policy agenda and legislative priorities of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce") and Bob McDonnell for Attorney General ("because of his overwhelming support for the Chamber?s priorities, as determined by an objective analysis of his legislative voting record in the House of Delegates") in 2005. Ugh.
Now, they're back with more endorsements, three Republicans and three Democrats. The Republicans are Sen. Jay O'Brien (39th), Sen. Ken Cuccinelli (37th), and Del. Tom Rust (86th). These endorsements follow earlier ones of five other Republicans: Del. Tim Hugo (40th); Sen. Walter Stosch (12th); Sen. Jeannemarie Devolites-Davis (34th); Sen. Williams (1st); and House Speaker William Howell (26th). Wonderful, huh?
So what are three Democrats - Delegates David Poisson (32nd), Steve Shannon (35th), and Dave Marsden (41st) - doing on this list, given that this PAC has given twice as much money to Republicans than to Democrats over the years? Is this just like when the NRA occasionally "endorses" a Democrat, but then does nothing for them (note: ask Creigh Deeds) because they really should be called the National REPUBLICAN Association?
I urge any Democrat "endorsed" by NOVABizPAC to say "thanks but no thanks." Or, how about "gifts come with strings attached, and I sure as hell don't want yours!"
Locally, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce has been a supporter of transit-oriented-development and has thus made it one of our top priorities among county issues. To recognize Supervisors contributions to transit-oriented-development, the following were endorsed by NOVABizPAC:
Supervisor Joan Dubois (R) - Dranesville District
Supervisor Penny Gross (D) - Mason District
Supervisor Sharon Bulova (D) - Braddock District
Supervisor Michael Frey (R) - Sully District
Other Supervisors that have already been endorsed and recognized for their contributions to transit-oriented-development were Chairman Gerry Connolly and Supervisor Linda Smyth.
So I guess they spread their "wealth."
