Anyone Want a Free Copy of George Lakoff's "Whose Freedom?"

The publishers of George Lakoff's latest book, "Whose Freedom: The Battle Over America's Most Important Idea", sent me 5 copies - one for me to review and four for readers of Raising Kaine. I'll give the four copies away to the first four people who write me (lowell@raisingkaine.com) or leave a comment here, explaining why they are interested in Lakoff's thesis that "the country is divided by two dramatically different worldviews, cognitive frames that determine how we think about economic policy, religion, science, foreign affairs?and freedom."

Lakoff's Thesis (DONDABEN - 6/20/2007 5:09:06 PM)
It has boggled my mind how we arrived at a sorry state of affairs that has created this intolerably wide chasm between right and left.
I'm very much interested in examining Lakoff's analysis particularly the impact of talk radio and 24 hour cable
on the debate.
You are the proud winner (Lowell - 6/20/2007 6:46:24 PM)
of copy #1! :)

I'd be very interested to see how Lakoff feels those amongst other issues have been driving a wedge in this country. How is it that we can speak the same language, but still not be speaking the same language? How is it that we live next door to each other, but do not understand each other? I have had many conversations of late on some topics of importance to me at work, and it's like the people I'm talking to live in a completely different world.
I do not know if Lakoff has the answers, and I doubt any one person has them all. But I'd be interested to learn what he has to say on the subject.

I am interested (WillieStark - 6/20/2007 5:46:26 PM)
This thesis has a good basis in cultural norms that have been established for quite a while. Lakoff has spoken before on the strict father versus nurturing mother models of looking at the world.
I think that this could be an important contribution to the way we talk about our policies or ideas to different parts of the electorate.
I am a pretty firm believer in data modeling and sociological analysis of groups of voters as a way of predicting voter behavior. This book could be an important addition to that overall field of study.
Copy #4 goes to you... (Lowell - 6/20/2007 6:47:11 PM)

When will normal mortals be able to buy a copy? (Teddy - 6/20/2007 5:58:50 PM)
Or do you have an advance copy before it is to hit Barnes and Noble? Everyone's comments above are to the point, sorry I missed out ("they" always cut me off, ending with the person right in front of me. Bah! I think most of us on Raising Kaine have been thinking along these lines anyway. I look forward to your review. Thanks
