The pack consisted of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin,Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop-the last packer still alive-and Peter Lawford. Lawford married Patricia Kennedy. Kennedy is the younger sister of John F. Kennedy. When Kennedy was introduced, he got to like the Pack. He really liked Peter. Frank Sinatra became a good friend. At JFK's funeral, Lawford can be seen comforting Caroline Kennedy then a young girl-that's film footage of the funeral. Anyrate JFK liked Frank, Frank liked JFK, sang his campaign songs, hosted the Inaugural Gala Ball festivities, which featured Bishop. Frank saw big things-a western White House at his house. He had a presidential helipad for the occassion. Frank also liked the Mafia, he introduced JFK Judith Campbell. Hoover of FBI saw blackmail. Warned the president on it. President had relationship cool with Frank. Frank got mad, and frusterated. Finally he took a sledge hammer and destroyed the Helipad and eased Lawford out of the group.
On an unrelated note, only a few politicians ,like Bill Clinton, can get away with being cool. The Rat Pack were cool. I'm not sure Chap Peterson is. This has nothing to do with if I think he'd make a great public servant...just coolness.
