Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, a group that includes VoteVets.org, the Service Employees International Union, MoveOn.org Political Action and Working Assets, among others, is ratcheting up the heat this summer as it "prepares to dispatch nearly 100 organizers to the home states and districts of Republican Senators and Representatives who have opposed setting a timeline to end the US war in Iraq." In Virginia, the targets are Senator John Warner, plus Representatives Thelma "Sleeping Beauty" Drake, Frank Wolf "in sheep's clothing," and Tom "DeLay" Davis.
According to NoIraqEscalation.org:
The program is modeled on the ?Freedom Summer? civil rights project. Organizers will be in fifteen states from Nevada to Maine, a total of 40 congressional districts.
[...]
Organizers will spend ten weeks in their assigned districts working with local veterans and advocacy groups to pressure targeted lawmakers to reject President Bush?s Iraq policy and instead vote to bring a responsible end to the war. A barrage of events, letter writing campaigns, endorsement efforts, and local legislative events are planned for each targeted state or district, building to large nationwide rallies at the end of August. The rallies come just in advance of anticipated votes on the war and the so-called ?surge.?
Here in Virginia, let's all contact Senator Warner, plus the Congresscritters mentioned above, and let them know what we think about the "surge."

What's the deal with Randy Forbes? (JPTERP - 6/18/2007 11:04:09 PM)
I've seen some of him embarrass Virginia repeatedly during House Judiciary Committee hearings (most recently in reference to the U.S. Attorney Firings). Apparently Alberto Gonzales is doing a great job--if you believe Rep. Forbes.
Any chance we could mount a serious challenge in 2008?
