Fairfax BOS / Tysons Metro Predictions

Today, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will be taking a position on the Aerial vs. Underground Metro rail through Tysons issue.  Anyone care to take a guess as to the outcome?

My guess: 7 votes for the Aerial option (anything in the name progress, ya know).  And Linda Smyth will vote against Aerial because she could use some reconciliation points after a tough primary.

On the positive side for tunnel supporters, I went 1 for 4 last week in my predictions so we could very well be seeing a tunnel after all.

Any other predictions?

I predict (ewolfk - 6/18/2007 10:54:43 AM)
that Boss Connolly will make reference to the Smyth victory -- saying that her win against the "anti-Metro" Charlie Hall shows that people know the current Board is looking out for them.  Of course, Charlie isn't  anti-Metro, but that is what the Smyth mailing said.  Also, I think Dana Kaufman might vote against the aerial option.

I have it running in the background - they are talking about other stuff, and they just came out of closed session.

Voted in favor - 8-2. (ericy - 6/18/2007 4:03:59 PM)

By a vote of 8-2 today, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors agreed to fund the first phase of a project to extend the Metrorail system 23 miles to Dulles International Airport -- a project local leaders say is deeply flawed, but is also vital for the region's continued growth.

The flaw, according to the supervisors, is that the rail extension would be built entirely above ground, meaning more congestion, more disruption and, eventually, a less pedestrian-friendly layout in sprawling Tysons Corner.

I didn't see exactly where in the agenda that they were going to cover this.  Possible that they voted in closed session.
