Via TPM, here's our former Senator explaining how he sees Republicans judging their Presidential candidates:Former Sen. George Allen is bullish about former Republican Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee, the actor who hasn't even gotten into the 2008 presidential race yet.Thompson has the right philosophy, is articulate, has a record and is "the best voice in America," Allen, a Virginia Republican, told a lecture series audience yesterday.
He likened Thompson's voice to that of a "modern-day Rex Allen," drawing a reference to a now-deceased cowboy actor.
Allen was responding to a moderator's request to handicap the political parties' candidates for the 2008 presidential nomination.
Did he say Rex Allen? In other words, one of the reasons why he likes Fred Thompson is because he sounds like some cowboy from the 1950s? This passes for political analysis for a major Republican politician? Aren't you glad this buffoon isn't your Senator anymore? Nobody tell George that his latest cowboy hero used to be pro choice -- his head might explode.
