More from last night's "debate" from Raising Kaine:
Transportation seems to consume most of our chatter, but we sometimes forget that Fairfax needs to be fixed in other ways, too. Last night, Charlie was asked about education funding, particuarly to fix our overcrowded schools.
Charlie says that one area where the supervisors can have impact is that "we need to committ to the best possible physical environment for our kids." One example he gives is about school lunches, which sometimes begin as early as 10:30 and end as late as 1. In this case, the phyiscal environment potentially affects the learning environment because "the kid may have to wait hours and hours to be fed becasue they are the last one in line for lunch. That's not acceptable."
With the $1.9 billion in funding, Charlie said he would "focus on some these basic issues of quality." Fixing the fundamentals with the massive amount of money, he says, will make a difference.
