But there is a problem in what Charlie says.
FIRST: The public did speak. The overwhelming majority want to make Metro West a model for Smart Growth.
SECOND: A small minority calling themselves Fair Growth does not want to concentrate development at Metro. Instead they want to spread new development out - they want SPRAWL.
Doing what Fair Growth wants - doing what Charlie Hall wants - will aggravate traffic problems, worsen global warming, spoil Fairfax County for our children, and ironically, ignore what the vast majority of the public wants.
Even at the meeting Charlie sponsored more people spoke up for Smart Growth at Metro West and rejected Fair Growth SPRAWL.
Charlie Hall should listen to the Public - and support Metro West.
Check out Idylwood Rd between Leesburg Pike and Gallows Rd. Check out the old Goat Farm property at the corner of Gallows and Idylwood where they clear cut the property. A short distance beyond that is the Wedderburn property where they are interfering with the W&OD trail. Also, check out all the trees Dominion Power has cut down the last several years.
Where were Linda and Gerry on land use before Kaine made local control an issue in his campaign? Did they speak out, try to elevate the issue in the public? They are classic, insider, you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours politicians. Gerry is not going to Congress standing on my neck if I have anything to say about it.
Enough already Glen. Rub the sleep out of your eyes, open the door and go for a walk.
Not sure who you are..or where you get your mis-information, but FairGrowth stands for reasonable growth supported by adequate infrastructure. This was sorely lacking in the Metro West plan. FairGrowth supports Transit Oriented Development - it was the details of this particular development plan that rankled the neighbors....
Metro West unfortunately will not do anything to reduce sprawl, so please don't kid yourself. It was designed as a high end development full of one bedroom condos....Not exactly the market that's attracted to Loudoun....People move to the far reaches of suburbia for two reasons -- either they want open space, in which case they will never choose to live close in, or two, they can't afford to be close in. Nobody wants a long miserable commute. Until there is affordable housing which accomodates families there will also be someone moving farther out.
Second, the County received THOUSANDS of emails from concerned citizens about MetroWest -- the VAST majority of citizens, including the sports communities and at least a dozen community groups in addition to FairGrowth, thought it was pushing too much too fast -- don't forget that MetroWest is going to be effectively 50% of the size of the Twon of Vienna!
Do the research before you cast stones. Your house is glass.
Oh yes, and post in your own name if you want to make accusations.
Fair Growth can say that they support transit-oriented development---but look at the facts---they oppose it every time.
As far as the point about people choosing the outer suburbs---that's because there isn't enough good design going into the transit-oriented spaces. On that we can probably agree there should be improvement.
However, for Fair Growth to make Linda Smyth out to be the demon spawn of every insider politician and developer-controlled is a huge big fat nasty disingenuous lie.
