"Top Priority: A Democratic Majority in the Senate"

There's an excellent article in the Falls Church News-Press about the fundraiser for Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple this past Saturday in Arlington. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend, but it sounds like it was a great success.
According to the News-Press, Governor Kaine - who was the guest of honor at the fundraiser - "was feeling his oats - he gave us a rousing campaign speech not only for Senator Whipple, but also in his quest to return the State Senate to a Democratic majority, and maybe even the House of Delegates."
In addition, the News-Press reports that "[a]s a Democratic leader, [Sen. Whipple] has taken on the responsibility of funneling a significant amount of money into key Senate races all over the state in the drive to secure a Democratic majority."
Anyway, I urge everyone to do what they can to ensure Tim Kaine and Sen. Whipple succeed, and that Democrats take back the State Senate this November. That's the top priority in Virginia this year, and also for many years to come (don't forget there's Congressional redistricting in 2011, and the State Senate will play a big role). Thanks.

IF the Democratic Leaders Sell Us Out....Who Needs Them... (mosquitopest - 5/24/2007 9:59:32 AM)
It's difficult to hear any cheerleading for the Democratic party when Reid and Pelosi are trying to pass a tootless "give Bush a blank check" war funding bill today and acting like Joseph Lieberman and thinking we will see this as "supporting the troops." To give Bush everything he wants (and only receive a temper tantrum in return) is selling out the majority of Americans who "THOUGHT" a democratic Congress would hold Bush accountable.
There's no excuse for this.....It looks like it's only going to take five months for the Democrats to sell out to big money and start acting like Republicans.
Well "we" are mad as hell and not going to be "sold out lightly" anymore!!
So if the Democrats want 2008 to continue to look "promising" they had better keep their promises to the American people and vote NO to this toothless Iraq war funding bill....
Buzz...Buzz...
Let us recall history! (Matusleo - 5/24/2007 5:07:57 PM)
Remember back in 1995 the Republicans managed to tie up the State Senate, and in 1999 they won it outright. Also in 1997, the GOP won a small majority in the State House. After redistricting in 2000, I had a chat with my new House Delegate, Creigh Deeds, and he told me that the Democrats would be lucky to win 35 seats in the next assembly. Even while Mark Warner and Tim Kaine were cruising to victory, we couldn't even win that many seats, coming in around 32 I believe.
So if we can take back the State Senate this year, then we will have a voice at the table no matter who wins the Governor's mansion in 2009. If we don't have a seat at the table, the GOP will do this to us again, and that's the last thing we can afford to let happen!
Go VA Senate Democrats!

I'm not voting for anyone who agrees with the AEI (personwho - 5/24/2007 10:09:14 PM)
Kaine has endorsed forced drugging in the community of people who have committed no crime, the same stance as Sally Satel of the American Enteprise Institute. I'm not voting for anyone who agrees with Kaine on this issue so I guess I'll be voting Republican this year for Delegate and Senate.
