Republican Governors Threaten to Sue Bush's EPA

From today's Washington Post op-ed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) and Gov. Jodi Rell (R-CT):

It's bad enough that the federal government has yet to take the threat of global warming seriously, but it borders on malfeasance for it to block the efforts of states such as California and Connecticut that are trying to protect the public's health and welfare.

While President Bush tries to delay any action until he's out of office, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports the first third of 2007 was the warmest January-April in recorded history.

Bush's stay-the-course policy on Iraq helped doom the GOP in '06.  Will his head-in-the-sand attitude on climate change sink the GOP in '08?

First challenge to feds since 1865 (Bernie Quigley - 5/21/2007 6:54:40 AM)
Thanks for posting. This article is enormously important. It is the first time a major state has substantively challenged the federal government since 1865. It you look at the Al Gore movie, An Inconvenient Truth, the map on environmental change and initiative he draws is primarily Arnold's coalition - California, Pacific Northwest and New England. There needs to be a coalition of northern Southern states (Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky) who would go along with New England and Arnold (and Canada and Europe) on this.
