Virginia Can Matter on Iraq - Where is M. Vanderhye on this?

I've been following the delegate race in the 34th, and I haven't heard Margi Vanderhye say one word about Iraq but her credentials are very suspect.  She was on the National Security Council staff when Republican Gerald Ford was President.  She was an aide to Henry Kissinger, who supports the surge.  On the other hand, Rip Sullivan was a moving force behind the creation of the Institute for Peace.

State legislatures aren't voiceless in this debate.  The Iowa legislature, the Illinois legislature, the California Senate, the Colorado
House, the New Hampshire House, the New Jersey House and the Oregon House have all adopted resolutions opposing the surge.  The Vermont legislature has adopted resolutions calling for "an orderly withdrawal of American forces from Iraq to begin immediately"!

If resolutions like those came to a vote in Richmond, where would Margi Vanderhye be?

I was wondering about that also.  She seems so "establishment."  I just can't see her rocking any boats no matter how much they need to be rocked.

We didn't endorse in this race (Lowell - 5/17/2007 5:48:11 PM)
but we like both candidates very much.  Last time I checked, this wasn't a race for US Congress.  How on earth did the Iraq issue come up in the context of a Virginia House of Delegates race?

Oh Please (UVAHoo - 5/16/2007 3:29:18 PM)
Yeah, she's such a Republican that President Clinton, Governor Wilder, Governor Warner, and Governor Kaine all appointed her to boards and commissions.  Margi has been an active member of the Democratic Party for decades and has worked her ass off to get Dems elected in Virginia.  I'm sure that Dave Hunt will really appreciate your information, though, when Margi is the Democratic nominee for the 34th House of Delegates district.

Ooooh!  I touched a sensitive nerve!  Is the subject of Iraq out of bounds?  Or do you just want to change the subject because her views aren't in sync with most Democrats'?

"most democrats?" (legacyofmarshall - 5/19/2007 12:47:42 AM)
You're totally right!  Margi Vanderhye's views are not in sync with most Democrats in a lot of Virginia.  Areas like... Chester, Poquoson, and Patrick.  But news flash: Rip and Margi are from MCLEAN.  That means they're both on board with the most progressive issues there are.  I can assure you Margi would never do anything a defender of the environment, civil liberties, and sound government would disagree with.

Just out of curiousity though - what (specific) view has Margi Vanderhye voiced that is against the state or even national Democratic platform?  As a Democrat and a resident of the 34th district, I'd like to know this before I vote for her.
