"Thelma Drake Votes to Slash Military Health Care"

According to the DCCC, "In a committee vote Wednesday [May 9], Representative Thelma Drake voted for an amendment to cut $66 million from the Defense Health Program." Instead, Drake supported sending the money to "Future Combat Systems (FCS), a research and development program whose main manufacturer and developer is defense contractor Northrop Grumman." Nice.
In the words of Jennifer Crider, Communications Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee:
During a time of war, it's outrageous that Representative Drake would put a defense contractor before the health care for our men and women in uniform. Our troops in uniform deserve far better than Representative Drake's disregard for their health and safety.
So, who's going to take on Thelma Drake in 2008 and beat her this time?

Just evil (Alicia - 5/14/2007 3:11:13 PM)
so she'd rather not take care of the wounded troops she voted to send to die and get maimed -- but would like to build the combat systems to keep sacrificing them?
I hope she loses her next election AND burns in hell

Thelma Drake (R - VA 2nd) offers no surprises. (john4_SamRasoul_2008 - 5/14/2007 4:45:16 PM)
A quick check around the Internet shows Congressperson Thelma Drake to be a typical present day Republican <

So, you do have a problem there in Tidewater (Eastern) Virginia, in our Second Congressional District. Sorry, I can't help you folks down there.
But here the Sixth Congressional District, in the Shenandoah Valley, we have a very similar problem with another typical present day Republican, Congressman Goodlatte: < http://www.opensecre... >
But here we already have an alternative, named Sam Rasoul. Sam wants to watch our spending. He even wants to pay back some of the money we have already borrowed. But he will provide funds for real defense procurement -- not just pork labeled defense procurement. But, one thing Sam will never do is to take the money from programs we need to fund for the care of our Veterans. Many of them need vital services desperately. And Sam's view is that all of our Veterans have earned those services, whenever they are needed.

One Thing You Can Say About Thelma (Susan P. - 5/14/2007 8:07:32 PM)
As a Congresswoman, she's a really great real estate agent. Time to send her back to that vocation, and free us to have actual responsible representation, rather than another brainless Bush rubber stamp.
After the "Shock and Awe" (VA Breeze - 5/14/2007 10:05:11 PM)
Four years later-still fighting the war. It is not fighting with high tech weapons-it is troops working door to door. Instead of just giving a defense contractor millions more, how about taking care of the troops doing this fighting. Retention is low and the DOD is behind on recruitment.
