Did Gilmore Steal Wes Clark's Logo?

According to today's Roll Call (behind a firewall, so no link):

Copy-Cat Fight. It's going to be a looong time before there's any actual news from the presidential trail, which is why there's time for spats such as the one a former campaign staffer for a one-time presidential hopeful, retired Gen. Wesley Clark (D), is picking with the presidential campaign of Jim Gilmore (R).

Drew Pritt, who was a Clark-ite during the 2004 election, said the former Virginia governor has ripped off Clark's for-president logo.

And sure enough, a visit to www.4president.com reveals similarities between the logos: Both feature a row of stars atop the candidate's last name and a similarly positioned election year. Pritt said it's a heist that "shows how bankrupt the Republican Party has become on original ideas."

A Gilmore campaign spokesman laughed off the resemblance, noting that the campaign logos of all presidential candidates are similar - most are rendered in patriotic shades of red, white and blue, and many feature stars and the phrase "for president." Besides, the logo on the Web site was for Gilmore's exploratory committee, and now that he's a full-fledged candidate, Gilmore has a new, sleeker graphic that looks nothing like Clark's, he said.

Anyway, check out the bumper stickers on the "flip" and judge for yourself.

Actually, it's kind of interesting how Gilmore has promoted himself to 5 stars, as opposed to General Clark's 4 stars. :)

Sorry Jim. (Eric - 5/9/2007 12:25:17 PM)
I looked through four elections worth of logos and none looked as similar as these two.  Sure it's difficult to come up with something unique, but if you can't even put in the effort to come up with your own logo you have no business running for president.

Or, looking at it from another angle, the Gilmore team didn't even do their homework to see if a recent presidential candidate had the pretty much the same logo.  Either way, not presidential material.  Hell, he wasn't even good governor material.

Not Pres. Gov. Material ?!? He's less qualified than Bush. (Tom Counts - 5/9/2007 1:30:41 PM)
Just kidding about Gilmore being less qualified than the guy who causes Crawford to be without their villiage idiot -- except Dubya is getting close supervison from sure-shot Dick when cleaning brush on his Texas dude ranch (shades of George "Dude Ranch" Allen). It's not possible to be stupider than the Pres., whom some of the GOP members of Congress have called "Dumb as a Stump".I do have to say that if the Goofy Old Party (I just love that GOP spell-out) factions join forces to nominate Gilmore it follows logically that they are not only even stupider, but have decided to commit political suicide and let the Donkey have a shot at running a single-party government.                            T.C.

Hmm (KCinDC - 5/9/2007 12:37:23 PM)
They are pretty similar, but are these the actual bumper stickers? Clearly they've been manipulated to at least add the "4President.Org" at the bottom. I'd rather see some photographs to make a fair comparison.

Clark is the ascending karma. (Bernie Quigley - 5/9/2007 1:06:45 PM)
It is flattering that the Republicans are stealing Wes's fire. It is because he has the fire. I notice that MSM likes to use the phrase now "warrior-scholar" recently in reference to basically any soldier with a college degree. I used it here and elsewhere in reference to Jim Webb and Wes Clark (Joe Sestak too) suggesting them to be the likes of Jedi Kinghts, inspired from  Tao te Ching ("Those of old who were good at being knight-scholars were subtle, were possessed of ineffable efficacy, and were in dark and mysterious confluence, so profound that they could not be percieved." - Tao te Ching, # 15)

I smell a rat (Randy Klear - 5/9/2007 1:13:28 PM)
...and for once, it's not Gilmore.  This bumper sticker looks nothing like the font/color scheme used on Gilmore's web site, as opposed to this sticker for sale on cafepress.com, which is very similar.

I think someone is being had here.

Crappy Gilmore (noonan - 5/9/2007 2:27:12 PM)
The logo that they're showing on 4president.org was Gilmore's original design logo, when he had a presidential exploratory committee.  He has changed it since deciding to run for president.

I apologize for the vulgarity in the subject, but I couldn't resist the urge to pun! :-)

This is not Clark's 04 sticker (vadem - 5/9/2007 8:46:28 PM)
I have one directly in front of me and there are differences.  Not sure who is playing around with these, or why Drew Pritt would have any reason to care.  The real bumpersticker has Clark04.com, and For President, but no such 4President.org web address along the botton.  There are also two white lines on either side of the For President line, sort of underlining the Clark04 line.

No idea what Gilmore's really looks like.  He can copy away, but the truth is that Jim Gilmore's spit isn't good enough to shine Wes Clark's boots.  The only way he could earn a single star is to draw it on a bumper sticker.

Sorry, Drew.  Much ado about nothing.

Actually there is.... (DrewPritt - 5/19/2007 4:25:37 PM)
VaDem, the logo above was the official logo that Clark used when he ran for President. What you have is something a volunteer or donater made to the campaign.

As proof of more to this mystery, go to the same http://www.4Presiden... page for 2008. If you look to the right is a .PDF for a Gilmore brochure and you'll see they stole the White background Clark logo as well.

No DrewPitt (vadem - 5/19/2007 4:34:22 PM)
What I have is an official Clark bumper sticker that came from the state Clark headquarters. No volunteer created this bumper sticker and it wasn't purchased from CafePress.  Besides, the bumper sticker you have posted has been debunked by people at WesPAC.

This is a silly diary and means absolutely nothing--who cares what Gilmore copies?  I don't.

Always fun to tweak Mr. "No Car Tax" (Lowell - 5/19/2007 5:44:55 PM)
That's all, no biggie.

There is just do much you can do... (Tricia4star - 5/20/2007 12:01:22 PM)
I am a Clark fan and not a Gilmore fan, so if there was any issue here I would support Clark.  There is just so much you can do with red, white, and blue and some stars!!!  This is SO silly--like Wes Clark would even care. And, how can you steal a white background?  LOL! So very silly...

I think it does matter. (DrewPritt - 5/26/2007 1:47:31 AM)
The logos showed there at 4President were the official logos. Look at the old http://www.Clark04.c... website.

Its not a question about whether the General cares or not. But it is a question why Gilmore who had his own logos when he ran before would blatantly use a very similar logo used once before.

Also, if you look at all the logos at 4President.org that are taken from the campaigns, you see that there is a lot you can do with stars and what not.

Also, to the person who writes Drew Pitt, you do that on purpose, and I know who you are, so let it drop. Its a great sign of disrepect and it shows how childish you happen to be.
