Barack Obama: 40,000 More Donors in April

According to Virginia's former Lt. Governor Don Beyer, 40,000 more people gave money to Barack Obama in April, most of whom were "new givers."  This is on top of the 100,000 donors to Obama in the first quarter of 2007.

In other news, Beyer says that his gut feeling is that Mark Warner will run for U.S. Senate in 2008, but only if John Warner doesn't run.  We should know this summer...

For more from Don Beyer, listen to Ben's and my Blog Talk Radio show, now available in archive.  Thanks.

It was a nice show.  I enjoyed listening to Don.

It is too bad the first (and only?) question came from a loser.  That person is not representative of anyone other than himself.  Given the tone of his comment, he had no right to claim the association he did.

If I was listening in real time, I would have called to tell Don how much I appreciate him getting behind Obama.

While I am supporting Obama energetically, there are some things I want him to do.  One of them is put some more edge on his speeches, not to appeal to ideologues but to demonstrate that he has strong core beliefs.  I'd like him to make it clear that he is going to fight for America and the better place that America can be.  That means higher wages for working people, access to health care in the direction of achieving universal coverage and a good education system for everyone.  He believes in these things, but the fighting is important because they will probably not be easy to achieve.

I believe in the consensus building and see that as a key to his appeal, but I also think that he needs to be very clear that he is going to be relentless in pursuing some things on behalf of the people who have been denied the opportunity to make their lives better for too long.  This includes middle class Americans who cannot afford to send their kids to college.

Who is Obama really? (novamiddleman - 5/7/2007 6:27:55 AM)
Noone really knows if Obama is really a liberal or a centrist

Like any good politician he is watching the polls.  Iraq is an obvious choice because he has 60ish support and even more with democratic voters.

If you want a politician who actually is man enough to take a stand you should be supporting Edwards

I don't think that Obama can be (Lowell - 5/7/2007 6:29:53 AM)
neatly characterized into a political label.  Of course, neither can Hillary Clinton or John Edwards...or Jim Webb, who frequently says that the "old labels of 'liberal' and 'conservative' no longer apply."
