In 1998 Republicans used their power to rename Washington National Airport, Regan National Airport.  Local people were not consulted about this name change; nor were we very happy about this.  This was done despite that fact that this airport was already named after a great American President and Alexandria resident, George Washington.  Now that we are in the majority again, it is time to fix this slight.  If we are going pass this hold your nose spending bill on Iraq, at least we could slip in a small amdendment restoring the name of Washington National Airport.

...that Reagan fired air traffic controllers.  To name National Airport after him was a slap in the face of hard working people fighting for their rights.

As a local (Catzmaw - 5/7/2007 9:27:35 AM)
I never refer to it as Reagan National Airport.  This diary is right on target.  I've never understood the rush to name everything in America after Reagan following his presidency which brought us the deregulation of the banking and credit industries (anyone remember the SNL crisis?), the gutting of mental health services, the demise of the unions, and the Republican tradition of placing hostile anti-environmentalists in charge of environmental agencies.

Grover Norquist's Dream (PM - 5/8/2007 6:44:52 AM)
A lot of the "name everything Reagan" impetus came from Grover Norquist.  http://www.workingfo...

I don't understand why he just doesn't have offspring and name them after Reagan.
