Sun Gazette tosses GOP Fairfax County Chairman some softballs

We've talked here at Raising Kaine before about how the Sun Gazette is skewed to the right.  Here's another example.  Check out these ridiculous softballs tossed during this interview with the new Fairfax County Republican Committee chairman James Hyland:

Which races do you consider the most crucial this fall? ....

What issues do you want to focus on this fall? ....

What aren't Fairfax County residents getting now, under Democratic rule? ....

Which issues do you think hold the best prospects for Republican gains? ....

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is dominated seven to three by Democrats. Do you expect that balance to change after November? ....

Is Fairfax County still a good place to be a Republican or is it heading for heavy Democratic dominance, such as in Alexandria, Arlington and Washington, D.C.?

What a hard hitting interview!  No need to ask a question about the very recent controvery that his Abramoff-stained chairman candidate is facing.  Or whether he's concerned that Janet Oleszek and Chap Petersen are showing tremendous strength on the fundraising trail. Or whether he's worried that the national drag of the President and GOP's ratings will hurt his party in the 2007 election.  Nope, let's just stick to the basics: "What are the reasons why Republicans are so great and Democrats are so not awesome?"

Some more points (novamiddleman - 5/6/2007 9:49:08 AM)
The vast majority of media in this area is left of center.
The coverage of Allen last fall being a prime exmaple.

The job of the media is not to rehash left or right talking points.

There is a time and a place for softball and hardball pieces.

There is a difference between news and opinion.  The Washington Post sometimes has trouble with this.

P.S.

Beauty of the free market is that nobody is making you read it :-p and the beauty of blogs allows multiple viewpoints to get across outside the MSM :-)

I would point out that all the Media General (Lowell - 5/6/2007 11:10:00 AM)
owned newspapers are RIGHT of center:

Richmond Times-Dispatch
The (Charlottesville) Daily Progress
The (Lynchburg) News & Advance
Manassas Journal Messenger
Potomac (Woodbridge) News
Culpeper Star-Exponent
The (Waynesboro) News Virginian
Danville Register & Bee
Bristol Herald Courier

Also, the DC Examiner and Washington Times are RIGHT of center, and the Washington Post editorial page is certainly not "left of center" in the view of most liberals.  Maybe corporate/centrist.

So what are all these media in this area that are "left of center?"  Please let me know so I can subscribe!!! :)

ok I should have put NoVa :-p (novamiddleman - 5/6/2007 1:38:55 PM)
Post, Connection,

Examiner lets put that in the center :-p

The Examiner's editorial page is VERY (Lowell - 5/6/2007 2:12:09 PM)
right wing.  I'm not sure if we're reading the same paper if you think it's "centrist."  As far as the Post is concerned, there's no question in my mind that its editorial page is strongly corporate/centrist.  Remember, they endorsed the longtime lobbyist over the populist in the Miller-Webb contest.  They also consistently endorse Frank Wolf and Tom Davis.  If that's "liberal," I'd hate to see "conservative!"

Hope you got outside some today :-)
