Congratulations to Abby Raphael on her victory tonight in the Arlington Democratic Caucus for School Board.  Given that Arlington is overwhelmingly Democratic, it's about a 99.9% chance that Abby will be elected to the School Board in November.

In other news, there were tables for two Presidential candidates, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. I talked to volunteers for both.  The Obama folks pretty much sold out everything they had - bumper stickers, buttons, etc.  The Hillary Clinton people were there in force as well, although they didn't seem to be selling anything.  As far as I could tell, there were no volunteers or signs for other Democratic 2008 candidates, although it's possible I just missed them...

By the way, last year's Democratic school board election was a huge success for the Webb volunteers, who probably talked to 1,000 or more voters as they exited the polls.  Given that the school board election took place just a few weeks before the June 13 Senate primary, it's possible that the Webb volunteers won hundreds of votes for Webb that day.  The power of the grassroots...

[UPDATE:  Please note that the Hillary Clinton people were giving their materials away. My understanding is that they handed out 168 bumper stickers, more than 120 pins, and 162 invitations to a June 6 rally in DC]

Why were they selling gear? (vadem - 5/5/2007 9:15:38 PM)
With all the money made by the campaign, they should be giving this stuff away!  I'd hate to see them pull another Kerry by asking their supporters to buy gear to give out at events, then end up with millions of $$ left over.

my guess is... (novademocrat - 5/5/2007 9:59:46 PM)
that right now the campaign doesnt have an official presence in Virginia and the volunteers fronted the money for the chum.

And lets not start critizing campaigns just yet about money.  John Kerry raised that extra money after the nomination was his - we still have a long way to go before that happens this year.

Right, my understanding is that this was (Lowell - 5/5/2007 10:49:10 PM)
volunteer driven.  I think that shows the intensity of support for their candidate, which is a great thing.

Arlington for Obama table at School Board Caucus (Kevin Vincent - 5/7/2007 5:50:47 PM)
Our table at the School Board caucus was entirely volunteer-organized and funded.  Members of the group fronted the money for the materials we sold out of our own pockets.  We sold everything that we had except for 14 bumper stickers!

Many thanks to all of the Arlington for Obama volunteers who spent the day on Saturday raising visibility for the Obama campaign.
