Democrats Back Down on Iraq Timetable.
There are only two parties that matter in this country, and if the only one that ever supports progressive issues backs down there is no hope left on this issue.

It is a process (Hugo Estrada - 5/3/2007 9:28:52 AM)
Democrats made it very clear that Bush is the only roadblock to our pulling out of Iraq. Well, Bush and his Republican followers in Congress, who will not stop their blind support of Bush.
What we can do is to keep the pressure on Congress, especially those of us who have Republican representatives.
I think we'll be in face-saving mode soon (PM - 5/3/2007 9:38:47 AM)
If the compromise is to set benchmarks, then Bush can say -- "I gave them every chance -- we won the war -- and the Iraqis failed to deliver their end of the bargain."

Beware the WaPo starboard-listing spin machine. Perhaps the Democrats will eventually cave on timelines, but they may not have caved quite yet. Here is the link to Greg Sargent's investigation:

It seems that we simply cannot accept MSM political reporting without interposing a healthy dose of skepticism. Perhaps the WaPo reporter (Jonathan Weisman) got ahead of his own story. Perhaps his editor subtly altered thrust and sequence of events. Or perhaps both Pelosi and Reid are now just trying to set up a defensive smokescreen to cover their planned retreat. It's hard from the outside to nail down the reality of this topic.

Remember the Post's Walter Pincus on the Bill Moyers story. He said when the staff tried to "Truth Squad" the Republicans, the editors told them they had to stop being so hard on the nice old men in the Republican Party. "Truth Squading" had to stop.
