Or, if you prefer a bit less of a traditional welcome, see the video on the "flip." :)

Lennon-McCartney Tribute (PM - 5/3/2007 7:56:50 AM)
Her majesty's a pretty nice girl
but she doesn't have a lot to say
Her majesty's a pretty nice girl
but she changes from day to day
I wanna tell her that I love her a lot
but I gotta get a belly full of wine
Her majesty's a pretty nice girl
someday I'm gonna make her mine
Oh, yeah, some day I'm gonna make her mine

I like the idea of a Royal family.  Elizabeth's mother, the Queen Mother, saw England through WW II.

Asked if she would remove her two young daughters from London during the Blitz, Queen Elizabeth replied: "The girls will not leave unless I do. I will not leave unless the King does. And the King will not leave under any circumstances whatsoever."

Hitler described the Queen Mother as "the most dangerous woman in Europe" because of her steadfastness.

Democracy Yes! (loboforestal - 5/3/2007 11:07:05 AM)
Elizabeth Windsor and her son Charlie need to get off public support and find real jobs.

America got it right in 1776.

Down with monarchy!  Long live the Republic !!!

It's a great tourist attraction for England. (Lowell - 5/3/2007 11:08:03 AM)
And it keeps the paparazzi and gossip rags in business.  That's about it, as far as I can tell.

Tourism is a rather big business (PM - 5/3/2007 12:41:09 PM)
Virginia clings to all these "traditions" which are nothing but tourism fronts.  The Queen is one of England's tourism fronts.  Just like statuary and faux classic architecture in DC.  If you look behind lots of history-themed tourism sites, they're no different than monarchy.  We should be re-enacting Civil War events?  How barbaric.

Donald McEachin talks about the Queen, slavery on CBS News (Lowell - 5/3/2007 11:04:26 AM)
From the McEachin campaign...

Donald McEachin to be Guest on CBS Evening News

Interviewed on Queen Elizabeth Visit to USA

Richmond - Delegate A. Donald McEachin (D-Henrico) was interviewed by Mark Phillips, London based reporter for the CBS Evening News hosted by Katie Couric, for a show scheduled to be aired this evening, Thursday, May 3 at 6:30PM. The network has cautioned that, like with all news shows, it is possible the interview will be broadcast on Friday, May 4, instead.

In the interview, which was recorded last evening, Delegate McEachin said how pleased he was, as a Virginian, that Queen Elizabeth had come to join the Jamestown 400th Commemoration.

In response to a question about the slavery apology, Delegate McEachin said that, while it would be "welcome", he was certainly not asking or requesting that she make any statement. As a Virginian and a Richmonder, he wants to be a gracious host and therefore, would never make any request of a guest, certainly not such an honored and special one. He is excited and pleased to have her here and, like all Virginians, looks forward to today's and next weekend's festivities.
