Can we make Jim Webb Majority Leader? (DanG - 5/1/2007 7:07:13 PM)
He displays the same mssage as Harry Reid without having to say "lost."

This is what I like about Webb's approach (Catzmaw - 5/1/2007 7:53:41 PM)
He cuts past the fluffernutter and hits the real issue.  He's one of the few who's noticed that we've let the Repubs define this debate in their terms - patriotism means fight until we achieve "victory" - which avoids the real issue, which is how, having already secured military victory, we disengage our military from a situation for which there is no military solution.  The problem I had with Reid's statements is that he used a loaded word like "lost" (although it helped that the MSM has steadfastly refused to quote his comment in context), instead of directing the focus to where it belonged and keeping it there - this is no longer about winning or losing.  It's about extricating ourselves from a foreign entanglement as George Washington advised us to do.  Moreover, having framed the issue this way, can we not appeal to traditional conservatives who honor George Washington and might actually listen to an argument framed thus?  We've allowed the neocons to cast this matter in jingoistic win or lose terms as if we were in some sort of boxing match instead of lurching around like a bull in a china shop.

Fluffernutter (vadem - 5/1/2007 9:08:50 PM)
Love that word, Catzmaw.  One thing our Senator is not--fluffernutter.

I've agreed with Senator Webb's comment for some time (Shawn - 5/1/2007 8:26:14 PM)
I even said so in an interview with Generation Engage during our campaign:
