I must say Lee says it better than any politician I have heard on either side of the spectrum. He makes splendid but seldom heard observations that we decided to bring democracy to Iraq instead of bringing it to our friend Saudi Arabia, a country which nutures the philosophy which brought us 9/11.
He also makes brutally honest statements like the one about Harriet Meyers and how Bush sighted her faith in his decision to nominate her to the Supreme Count. Iacocca says "Her faith that Bush was God."
Surprisingly, Iacocca seems to be turning into a real Al Gore fan these days. He is pushing the idea that we need to end our dependency on oil. He is suggesting a gas tax which would be used for research into alternate energy sources. He even goes so far as to say that the oil cartels are running our country.
He also punches holes in Bush's methods for installing government appointees. In speaking of Michael Brown's past as head of the American Arabia Hourse Association he comments "Whatever the hell that is." He compares the administration's process of appointing unqualified cronies to hiring a guy to head up your engineering department because he got you a good mortgage on your house.
I enjoyed reading about his visit to Cuba where he talked with Castro (who has stopped smoking cigars by the way). This was a nice look at outside the world from the inside of Cuba.
I am only half way through this book and I highly recommend it. Even as the Democrats we it seems that we have skipped over a few things we should have noticed. Lee helps us verbalize these things in a very entertaining way.
