Friends of Al Gore have secretly started assembling a campaign team in preparation for the former American vice-president to make a fresh bid for the White House. Two members of Mr Gore's staff from his unsuccessful attempt in 2000 say they have been approached to see if they would be available to work with him again.
Any truth to these rumors? Who knows, but it's certainly started a lively discussion over at Daily Kos, with people speculating on how fast he could raise $20 million ("two weeks" is one person's guess) and who would be his running mate (Obama, Richardson, Clark...). I'll tell you, Gore-Obama and Gore-Clark sound really good to me. Bill Richardson as Secretary of State and John Edwards as Attorney General? Those work for me too.
Oh, by the way, this is nothing against the other Democratic candidates, but I have been deeply impressed by Gore's courage in speaking up about the Bush-induced constitutional crisis, as well as his tireless, heroic work on my #1 issue, global warming. So, again, nothing against the current crop of Democratic candidates, but I gotta say, "Run Al Run!" :)
The second aide approached by Vice-President Gore's allies said: "There is no love lost between Gore and Hillary. They don't think she can win and they're probably right. If Gore runs, he's got a really good chance of getting the nomination. And he has a good chance of pulling off the election, too."
He could win this thing, and raise some nice change while he's at it.
