Almost a decade ago, Johnny 'Roadblock' Joannou decided it would be a good idea to plaster Republican Gov. Jim Gilmore's bumper stickers on his own campaign signs.  Just in case someone still had questions about his true loyalties, you understand. (Virginian-Pilot, 2-4-2002)

Today, Johnny Roadblock is still a favorite among the district's GOP.  "You can't get much more Republican than the positions he takes," says Portsmouth Republican Committee Chair Bryan Meals. (Virginian-Pilot, 2-4-2002)

In the more than 30 years he has been asking the people of Hampton Roads for our votes, Johnny Roadblock has been doing less and less to address our concerns.  Especially the growing crisis in the Midtown Tunnel.  And especially any solutions to that crisis offered by Democrats like Mark Warner or Tim Kaine.

Maybe it's because Johnny Roadblock didn't face a serious challenge for so long that he assumed he could become "one of the most dependable Republican votes in the House of Delegates" without being held accountable. (Virginian-Pilot, 2-4-2002)

So when the Governor proposed his comprehensive amendments to help fix our traffic woes a few weeks ago, no one was surprised to see Johnny Roadblock vote against Tim Kaine's transportation plan.

Which explains why when Johnny Roadblock looks at June 12, he sees Light at the end of the tunnel.
