Great Move by Ben Tribbett

See here as Ben removes a blogger from his blogroll for writing "One of the most depraved things I have seen on the internet in a long time."
In contrast, here's a conservative blogger demonstrating a great deal of class.
All in all, I think that the Virginia blogosphere can hold its head high for the way it conducted itself the past few days. Let's not let one (really) bad apple spoil it.
[UPDATE: And then there's this truly despicable comment (at the National Review Online), essentially blaming the victims at Virginia Tech for not having sufficent "spirit of self-defense" and bragging that he would "at least take a run at the guy" if he were in a similar situation. This is truly warped. My question: what is wrong with people like John Derbyshire, as well as those who employ them?]

Great example of trash and class.
Good move by the police in Centreville (PM - 4/18/2007 9:38:13 AM)
They shooed the media circus away from the Cho home.

In these personal situations, I think the media have a right to ask -- once -- if the person cares to talk. As many reporters will tell you, some do want to talk. If they say no, the media should disappear.
Leave the parents alone, for God's sake! (Lowell - 4/18/2007 9:40:37 AM)
This is the media at its worst.
Iew, the media. (phriendlyjaime - 4/18/2007 9:58:41 AM)
Here's the thing; we were getting the news we needed from the internet the day it happened. The media was getting their news from blogs, like always. Now, the "jouranlists" on the ground in Blacksburg have been reduced to nothing but twisted, attention hungry WHORES. I watched this morning as they SALIVATED over police presence, repeating over and over, "The guns are drawn, vests are on, we have no details, but WHAT IS HAPPENING?!? Another shooter? Who knows, but you heard it here FIRST!" And they are just BEGGING students to look sad for the cameras, asking the most inane questions: "So, your sister died...are you upset? Is it painful? Is your mother crying?"
So gross.
Some, Not All, are Vultures (KathyinBlacksburg - 4/18/2007 10:32:33 AM)
I'll write about the coverage of this week's events at a later time. Most of the media, even the MSM, have been wonderful and respectful. In particular, Brian Williams and John Roberts have been great, thorough, and sensitive at the same time.
But there are some, whose blame-game attacks on individuals at Virginia Tech are unspeakable. FAUX News has no business trying to stir up angry reactions against Virginia Tech, it's leaders, teachers, or anyone. Chris (don't know her last name on MSNBC at 9 AM) over and over tries to push guests to blame VT or promote everyone being armed on campus (as the supposed anti-dote to this kind of tragedy). The need to stop.
Just a few days ago, I posted a reply to a diary condemning those who try to take away other's jobs. It's happening again. And it is more than inappropriate.
The President of Virginia Tech was my neighbor some years back. He is a hard-working human being. He knows personally at least the family of one of the victims, if not more. This is an overwhelming event. How could these people set out to do this to someone who is grieving, yet having to work without sleep to keep things on course?
I am sickened by the hateful, vengeful exploitation of this tragedy. And I thank those, including RK and NLS who are standing up to such mean-spirited opportunists.
Dear Derbyshire.... (buzzbolt - 4/18/2007 11:39:13 AM)
How sure are you that some of the shooting victims did not, in fact, follow your advice and rush the gunman?
Apparently, your marvelous mind can offer a lot of solutions after thinking things over for a couple of days. The human targets had fractions of seconds to react--too bad you weren't there to help, they really needed your expertise.
There's a time and place (TheGreenMiles - 4/18/2007 12:08:46 PM)
Look, everyone knows there are political issues that will come out of this in due time. But Michael Moore didn't put out "Bowling for Columbine" two days after the shootings. Let's give everyone some space to deal with the impact of this tragedy before the inevitable finger-pointing.

The scary thing to me about this "carry fanatic", as someone who used to carry concealed in uniform and in civvies while in the army, is his eagerness to shoot at a shooter when he says he shoots often and can't hit anything! If he has a concealed permit, someone needs to revoke it before he kills someone he's trying to save.
Guns on campus (Hugo Estrada - 4/18/2007 12:42:19 PM)
My wife and I were talking about this. She said that the only person she would like to have in a classroom with a gun were soldiers, vets, or law enforcement officers taking classes because they would actually know how to handle the gun the right way.
The main power of carrying a weapon is to issue a threat before violence begins. Any person with a basic understanding on gun safety can use guns in this manner.
But a madman shooting at a crowd is an entirely different scenario. And I assume that only experts can handle this correctly.

Again, the answer is not to deny their free speech rights, but more and better speech by those who disagree.
Having said that, if their plane were to go down on the way to one of these events (God forbid), I might be tempted to attend THEIR funeral.
