Lieberman Endorses GOP Senator

Sen. Joe Lieberman (?-CT) is endorsing Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) for re-election next year. No Democrat has officially entered the race yet, but Rep. Tom Allen (D-ME), who many consider a serious threat to Collins if he did run, is likely to throw his hat in the ring.

Sen. Collins is frantically trying to explain to her constituents that she's not really pro-Iraq War, despite past votes and speeches to the contrary. In addition to the Lieberman endorsement, she's endorsed McCain for President. That's two of the biggest Iraq War hawks on Capitol Hill in her corner.

Also a few months ago Collins was the deciding vote that gave Trent Lott the Minority Whip position in the Senate GOP Leadership. Since Lieberman could care less which party has control of the Senate, he apparently is ok with Trent Lott as Majority Whip in the next congress.

can we excommunicate him???

Lieberman (Susan P. - 4/14/2007 6:58:42 AM)
He can be taken off his committees.  But then he will switch to the Republicans, and they will control the Senate.  Don't worry, this will be taken care of after the elections.  The Democrats only need to gain one seat, and Lieberman will get what he deserves.

actually... (novademocrat - 4/14/2007 7:03:07 PM)
if we remove lieberman now, Democrats will still control the Committees.  When they wrote the rules, they put in a little provision that these committees wont change hands until the 111th Congress - something the Republicand didnt do in 2001.  The thing it does to us is, he really starts voting the way he wants to, like a repubilcan and screwing us with votes..

Absolutely right (Chris Guy - 4/15/2007 11:07:42 PM)
But the whole thing would turn in to a circus. Then the GOP would come up with new ways to give him more power than we ever could as a member of their caucus.

The sad part (relawson - 4/14/2007 11:35:06 AM)
The sad part is that he actually ran for President and on the ticket as VP with Gore.  I think Gore lost because of Lieberman - what a horrible choice as a running mate.

Personally, I don't think it matters who he endorses.  He is becoming irrelevant as time goes on.
