Are Radical Conservatives Stupid, Insane, or Just Liars?

Earlier this week, Jerry Kilgore came out and simply lied, saying that former Governor Jim Gilmore had left no deficit.  The audience to whom he delivered that lie, groaned with disgust at his inauthenticity.  When the Warner-Kaine administration came in to office Gilmore had left Virginia's fiscal house in complete disarray, to the tune of a well-documented $6bn deficit.

Now, today, embattled, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay came out with similar but much grander lies.

oh man, you won't believe this...

Tom DeLay acutally said:

Republicans have done so well in cutting spending that he declared an "ongoing victory," and said there is simply no fat left to cut in the federal budget.

The "CarpetBagger Report" blog had this to say on their way to proclaiming the death of Conservatism:

There's no indication that he was kidding. Tom DeLay ? who has seen federal spending, federal deficits, and the size of the federal government flourish under Republican control ? now believes the massive federal budget is just about perfect. No more waste, no more abuse, no more fat to trim.

A few far-right stragglers may still argue that the government should cut spending to help bring the budget back towards balance, but DeLay effectively explained yesterday that this simply can't be done. The Majority Leader has declared "victory."

I just don't know what to say.  Jerry Kilgore doesn't believe that $6bn was a deficit.  According to Kilgore it just didn't exist.

Now, Tom Delay thinks this is just fine and worthy of declaring "victory":

The Outstanding Public Debt as of 14 Sep 2005 at 08:04:33 PM GMT is:

$7,960,296,812,863.85

The estimated population of the United States is 297,164,443
so each citizen's share of this debt is $26,787.51.

The National Debt has continued to increase an average of
$1.66 billion per day since September 30, 2004!

It's too much for me to grasp.  The enormity of the idiocy, the vapidity, the mendacity!  This year's budget deficit will likely be over $331 Billion.

From the Washington Times

Asked if that meant the government was running at peak efficiency, Mr. DeLay said, "Yes, after 11 years of Republican majority we've pared it down pretty good."

How do these liars actually look themselves in the mirror?
