hee hee Good going Lowell (PM - 4/11/2007 10:16:32 AM)
There's a funny site called
http://www.regretthe... that often has humorous (and real) newspaper corrections --
..the Sunday Telegraph published an utterly false tale claiming that several councils "across Britain" had ordered schools to stop serving to hot cross buns at Easter so as not to offend children of non-Christian faiths. In fact, no local authority had done anything of the sort,
Yeah, but the damage already has been done. (Lowell - 4/11/2007 10:27:25 AM)
Also, they didn't correct the wildly erronenous conclusions that Zakaria drew from his wildly erroneous numbers. Totally. Freakin'. Lame.
Why does the MSM suck so bad? (Lowell - 4/11/2007 11:40:40 AM)
I mean, do they TRY to suck so bad or are they just incompetent? No wonder why they feel threatened by bloggers!
I think it's intentional. (KathyinBlacksburg - 4/11/2007 12:45:19 PM)
They (the media) have to try to be as bad as useless as they are. Much of it is still giving airtime to Bush's worn misrepresentations about "mushroom clouds," WMDs, and Iraq as a so-called source of prewar terrorism against the US, etc. Today McCain is aback at it. Using VMI as a backdrop, he's again attacking Democrats, falsely claiming they are against the troops. It is getting really old. I just hope people start turning the TV off. Ratings are the only think the networks and cable news shows get.
Maybe a LTE? (PM - 4/11/2007 3:15:27 PM)
A short one might do the trick. And put in a plug for the blog -- "Readers of the RK blog, where this was exposed and thoroughly discussed, know the facts, but your correction leaves your many readers misinformed. "
Too cool (KathyinBlacksburg - 4/11/2007 3:39:32 PM)
Lowell, This is too cool. I think WAPO owes you the credit on this one. It's obvious that you tipped them off.
Maybe they should hire an editor (Lowell - 4/11/2007 4:56:16 PM)
who carefully fact checks the crap they put in their paper. I mean, this one was a huge mistake and they totally missed it.
The thing is, they do have fact check editors (PM - 4/11/2007 8:03:37 PM)
I've written op-eds (for others) for the WSJ, NYT, USA Today and the Post, and fact checkers from the various editorial pages made me supply sources. WTF? The people I was writing for were certainly at least as reputable as this numb-brain. Maybe he knew someone on the editorial pages and they gave him a pass.
Yeah, they probably don't fact-check "big names" (Lowell - 4/11/2007 8:20:22 PM)
like Fareed Zakaria. Either that, or they only do a very cursory check.
