The 39th Senate District is on the way to becoming Blue with George Barker...

First it was a staggering victory at the Gerry Connolly St. Patrick's Day straw poll where George Barker received 91% of the votes cast...

Then it was 2 back to back kickoff events in Prince William and Fairfax Counties which drew hundreds people who care about  George's positive message and vision.

The Prince William County kickoff took place at the beautiful home of Brig. Gen. Clara Adams-Ender , one of the retired military women featured in last fall's TV ads supporting Jim Webb. Sally Davis introduced George to the sizeable crowd and talked about George's work in and for all of Northern Virginia, including his efforts in Prince William County. George spoke of his commitment and track record of solving issues facing the 39th District. George then told the crowd about his involvement in yet another successful project - the upcoming opening of the new Prince William Community Health Center in permanent space in June!

Candidates Bruce Roemmelt (House of Delegates), Bill Ryland (Clerk of Court), and Corey Riley (Board of County Supervisors) also attended the event.

Due to the incredible number of RSVP's to the Fairfax County event, it was held at the Clifton Community Center.  More than 200 people attended and the crowd was energized and enthusiastic.  Supervisor Sharon Bulova Braddock District) introduced George with a ringing endorsement as she spoke about George's effectiveness with getting things done for the local community in  transportation, education, health care, and environmental protection.  George then took center stage.  His speech was powerful and described some of the goals he will fight for as our next Senator.

In addition to Supervisor Bulova, we had the pleasure of being joined by Delegates Brian Moran, Chuck Caputo, David Bulova, Dave Marsden, Jim Scott, Kris Amundson, and Mark Sickles, Chairman Gerry Connolly, and School Board members Janet Oleszek and Ilryong Moon. Candidates who attended included Morris Meyer and Rex Simmons(House of Delegates), Janet Oleszek (Senate), Jeff McKay and Mike McClanahan (Board of Supervisors), Dave Miller (Clerk of Court), and Ramona Morrow (School Board).

Change in the 39th district and Richmond is needed, and George Barker is the candidate who can make it happen. Even though George has been widely endorsed, he still needs our support to spread the word across the 39th district. It will be interesting (Draft Me Please - 4/5/2007 12:37:12 PM)
to see how those endorsements stack up against Leslie Byrne, Chap Petersen, David Englin and Greg Werkheiser's endorsements of Greg Galligan.

Looks like we have the makings of a Harris Miller v. Jim Webb Part 2 in terms of early endorsements.

Nice talking point, but it doesn't hold water. (Josh - 4/5/2007 3:13:57 PM)
I've met Greg Galligan, George Barker, Harris Miller and Jim Webb.  Each is his own man and should be judged upon his own merits. Likewise all of the endorsers bring their own support and their own perspective to this race.
Greg is doing a good job running his campaign, and so is George.

Full aware of both men running good campaigns, should be judged on their own merits, and all men being different etc etc etc.
Come on, its fair game to compare endorsements early on in a primary that I am interested in.

It's also fair... (Josh - 4/7/2007 2:05:43 PM)
To point out that Galligan has been pitiful in terms of turning people out.

2 critical cases here.

1.  The Gerry Connolly Straw poll which Webb won last year.  This year Galligan lost it 81% to 19% or something the like.  A purely pitiful showing which Galligan apologists wrote off by simply saying "we didn't try".  Know what, it took a hell of a lot of work to win that damned thing last year for Jim Webb.  You don't get to claim "Webbiness" by being lazy.  That's insulting to the senator.

2.  Galligan's PWC kickoff was a miserable failure by any count.  The few PWC precincts in the 39th are basically bastard step children in this race and will likely be forgotten, but George Barker took them seriously enough to throw a big kickoff which was attended by over 50.  Galligan's kickoff in PWC was attended by fewer than 20, more like 10 of whom many were Barker supporters who were trying to wish Galligan well.

The reality is very different from simple metaphor, while George Barker is no Harris Miller, Greg Galligan is definitely no Jim Webb.

Josh, as one of the premier contributors to RK, an organization with whom hasn't endorsed in this race, I'd really hope that you coming off as Barker's head cheerleader isn't because he's listed with the likes of DEMPAC. Also, on the note of the Connolly straw poll, wasn't Barker doing crowd building and making calls to turn people out to that? Perhaps the Galligan camp should have turned up the efforts there to do the same, but I hardly think its a fair comparison. Also, as a big fan of RK, I hope that any sway in the matter hasn't left you void of objectivity here.
