State officials were threatening legal action against a development company over a Capitol Square renovation project last fall when a senior lawmaker stepped in to "calm the waters."State Sen. Thomas Norment Jr., R-James City, a lawyer with Kaufman & Canoles, which represented the company in its dispute with the state, became involved even to the point of consulting a top adviser to Gov. Timothy M. Kaine.
However, Norment made no mention of the construction company in his annual economic interest reporting form that all legislators are required to file in January.
