Frank Wolf in Syria; Meets with Mufti Who Praised David Duke

Hat tip to Waldo Jaquith on this story.
That's right, at the same time that the White House is attacking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) for visiting Syria, they are NOT attacking Rep. Frank Wolf (R) for...you guessed it, visiting Syria! So what's the difference? Hint: see the initials in parentheses following the Represenatives' names. Hmmmm...
[UPDATE: See the Syrian Arab News Agency report on Frank Wolf's meeting with Grand Mufti Ahmad Badr Eddin Hassoun. Yes, this is the same Grand Mufti who praised white supremacist David Duke on Duke's "red carpet" tour of Syria last year.]

And let's give Wolf credit on this (PM - 3/31/2007 6:04:35 PM)
When a Republican does the right thing, we should applaud them. I think a fair number of people who visit this site have some Republican roots. Some of us like guys like Russ Potts -- a Republican who often voted progressively.
I agree PM (Eric - 3/31/2007 6:07:50 PM)
but the problem here isn't with Wolf.
Oh, I know. We have a President who is in such denial (PM - 3/31/2007 6:32:14 PM)
(or just mentally ill?) that he's losing some of his big supporters, e.g., ex-campaign strategist Matthew Dowd:
http://www.nytimes.c...
Mr. Dowd said he had become so disillusioned with the war that he had considered joining street demonstrations against it, but that his continued personal affection for the president had kept him from joining protests whose anti-Bush fervor is so central.
Mr. Dowd, 45, said he hoped in part that by coming forward he would be able to get a message through to a presidential inner sanctum that he views as increasingly isolated.
Dowd's "outing" is yet another nail Bush's coffin. (Shenandoah Democrat - 3/31/2007 6:50:09 PM)
The NYT article about Dowd's criticism of Bush is another important sign of Bush's declining standing. It comes at probably the worse time, just as Bush is trying to rally war support against congressional Dems.
It's great that Wolf is in Syria--really takes the ding out of Administration criticism of Pelosi..looks like that one really backfired, too.
Can anyone tell me anything the Bushies do right besides run dishonest deceptive election campaigns for a mental midget?
I give 'em high marks for our foreign policy towards the Azores (PM - 3/31/2007 7:09:38 PM)
This is an idea (norman swingvoter - 3/31/2007 8:25:14 PM)
What would really be great would be a photo op between the Wolf and Pelosi delegations to Syria. I would be interested to see what bush said then.
This couldn't be any more transparent... (Detcord - 3/31/2007 10:30:59 PM)
At only 45, he's clearly looking for a job in the next administration, regardless of party. This is classic "hedgology" in Washington-speak.
Now that the David Duke update is up (PM - 3/31/2007 8:48:18 PM)
Sigh. I guess one has to meet with arch-fiends too. (Just want to make sure my praise of Wolf for going to Syria is not misread.)
Is the Syrian news SANA-tized for the American public?
Ha, SANA-tized for your protection (Lowell - 3/31/2007 8:51:12 PM)
...but not the political protection of Republicans like Wolf who meet with anti-Semitic Syrians.
