The "Single Issue" Senator Takes on Global Warming

Yeah, that Jim Webb is really turning out to be a "single issue Senator," huh? Now, Sen. "Single Issue" turns his attention to yet another area - global warming.
Senator Jim Webb today applauded the unanimous passage of the bipartisan Biden/ Lugar resolution by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee urging President Bush to accelerate international negotiations on global warming. Senator Webb was an original co-sponsor of the resolution.
The resolution, S.Res.30, calls for the United States to work in concert with other countries to reduce harmful greenhouse gases that aid in global climate change, under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
This resolution states that the evidence of the human role in global warming is clear and that the environmental, economic and security effects will be costly.
"The United States is responsible for roughly -+ of carbon dioxide emissions in the world. It is important that we take a leadership role in addressing this issue today," said Senator Webb. "I am pleased the debate in Washington has changed on global warming. I believe strongly that scientific principles can be applied in a way that preserves our environment and also allows sensible economic growth."
The text of the resolution can be found at: http://www.thomas.go...
So, let's see, that "single issue" again is what, economic fairness? Social justice? Carbon sequestration and "clean coal?" Introducing a modern day GI Bill for veterans? Restoring checks and balances in our government? Making sure that the Bush Administration goes to Congress before it attacks Iran? Trying to get us out of Iraq in a responsible, careful manner? Taking action on global warming? All this in just 3 months, by the way. And what did Jim Webb's predecessor take the lead on, exactly?

Thank you Jim Webb (Kindler - 3/30/2007 2:35:00 PM)
Reason #8,763 to be glad that Webb beat Allen...
Webb is obviously a "one issue" politician (mkfox - 3/30/2007 10:46:20 PM)
And that issue is doing what's right for the American people.
George Allen's legislative record contains (Catzmaw - 3/30/2007 3:53:06 PM)
almost no substance whatsoever. He introduced bills to balance the budge, permit line item veto, and one for technological innovation in the final days of his tenure brought for the sole purpose of fluffing his scanty resume against Webb. Most of the rest of his legislative efforts consisted of amendments to waive import duties on kitchen appliances, to recognize various persons and groups, and to change the name of a park. There was his (oops) Durbin's Brain Injury legislation, but that was, you know, Durbin's.
Didn't you take English? (littlepunk - 3/30/2007 4:45:36 PM)
The legislation was Allen's. If it were Durbin's it would have said "will" instead of "shall". Or whatever the differences were. I'm sure if you took even basic English you could recognize the difference between those two bills and wouldn't be bashing Allen for not having done anything.
OMG, you are SOOOO right (Catzmaw - 3/30/2007 5:11:45 PM)
Will and shall are practically polar opposites! I stand corrected ;)

What George Allen Did Best (norman swingvoter - 3/30/2007 7:18:57 PM)
George Allen was absolutely the best at kissing bush's butt while keeping an eye on polls of republicans. I am gleeful that we now have Webb, a man that will stand up for American and stand up for our troops!
And he'll stand up for the planet... (Kindler - 3/30/2007 8:49:28 PM)
...upon which all else in our lives depends.
Thanks (norman swingvoter - 3/30/2007 10:19:18 PM)
Good point!
