Bruce Roemmelt, Delegate David Englin, the Virginia Partisans, and the Arlington Young Democrats hosted a Happy Hour fundraiser for Bruce Roemmelt tonight in Arlington. There was a great turnout which raised lots of money [click here to donate] and Bruce, as always, delivered the goods.Here's a quick summary of some of the comments:
David Englin introduced Bruce as a leader, a fellow veteran, a fire fighter and one of the hardest working guys in Virginia politics.
Bruce is one of those who isn't afraid to take on a tough job like beating Bob Marshall, because it's the right thing to do, and because he knows how to get the job done.
Bruce joked that it's great to have a guy (David Englin) 40 years younger than you as your role model.
Bruce makes decisions based on what's the right thing to do right now. The right thing to do right now is to get rid of Bob Marshall.

Bob Marshall doesn't believe that Gays and Lesbians should be allowed to walk among us. He doesn't believe in women's reproductive rights, and even got involved in the Terri Schaivo case.
Bruce watched Bob Marshall for a long time and wondered "Why doesn't somebody do something about this guy?" After a few years of watching, and working on campaigns, he decided to do something about Bob Marshall.
Bruce believes in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, which puts him directly at odds with Bob Marshall. This is an opportunity to live your values, and that's just what we need to do.
In 2005, Bruce knocked on over 8,700 doors, and his campaign knocked on over 20,000 doors. People said he wouldn't raise $15,000, he raised over $220,000. This year he expects to double all of those numbers.
This year he'll knock more doors, make more phone calls, and even be on cable. The campaign will be able to engage volunteers from all over Virginia, and where last time around he outperformed the district by 10%, this time he'll get even better results.
It takes hearts and minds and committment to get things done and that's precisely what will win this election.
The gloves are going to come off, and Bruce will not be afraid to take the fight to "Virginia's Chief Homophobe". Bob Marshall is responsible for some of the most invidious legislation in the House, and his example gives others cover. This year Bruce intends to "cut the head off the snake" by elmininating Bob Marshall.
"Every burning building I went in to I put the fire out, and I'm going to put out Bob Marshall".
