Kaine Event (Big Stone Gap)

Tonight, Tim Kaine arrived in Wise County after having to call off his intended trip last Wednesday due to snow.  He was joined by former Governor Holton, his father-in-law.  Governor Holton is originally from Big Stone Gap and was welcomed home by a very gracious crowd.  Holton joked that his Republican friends are razzing him about supporting Democrats and that he is starting to make a habit of it.

Kaine began by telling the crowd who his three heroes are: his father, Jim O?Leary, and Governor Holton.  He then proceeded with some introductory information about himself.  The crowd was energized and he connected with the group well.

Another key point in his remarks was that Jerry Kilgore has never really bothered to set forth his plan for Virginia.  Kaine said he ?welcomed Kilgore to this campaign and looks forward to hearing his perspective on where Virginia is going.?  Kaine said, ?that once the voters see what both sides have to offer, he feels certain they will agree with his vision for the Commonwealth and vote for him, regardless of whether they are a Republican or Democrat.?

Kaine?s remarks really hit home when he said that because of the budget he and Mark Warner had fought for, Wise County school systems received almost $10 million in funding they would not have obtained under the Republicans? proposed budget.

Afterwards, he stayed around and spoke individually with anyone who wanted to talk with him.  He seemed very sincere and I look forward to him moving into the Governor?s Mansion.

On a lighter note, they served Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes (with gravy), and Cole Slaw.  All of which were excellent.

There was also a nice banner there.
