Stupidest Thing Uttered By Anyone EVER

"We are fighting for freedom for our children more than any war we have ever been in."

No, this is not in reference to World War II or its predecessor, "The War to End All Wars." This is referring to the U.S. involvement in an ongoing civil war in Iraq, courtesy of Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX). What in the name of god do they put in the water in that state?! And the sad part is, Hutchinson is supposed to be the sane, moderate Republican Senator in Texas. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) has approval ratings that pale in comparison to that embarrassment. At least he's up for re-election in 2008, we're stuck with Kay for the next 5+ years. Sen. Hutchinson once wrote a book called, American Heroines. Someone tell her that heroine is something you ARE, not something you SNORT.

Republican Party At Its Best (norman swingvoter - 3/19/2007 3:31:07 PM)
That's what republicans do best, come up with cute meaningless sayings.  Fortunately, these are increasingly only listened to by the true believers who ignore any evidence and have to be some of the most gullible people on the face of the earth. The rest of us are becoming less gullible as the casualty count rises with no end in sight.

Presidential candidate bungles speech in Miami
BY BETH REINHARD
People chuckled when presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a Mormon raised in Michigan and elected in Massachusetts, bungled the names of Cuban-American politicians during a recent speech in Miami.

But when he mistakenly associated Fidel Castro's trademark speech-ending slogan -- Patria o muerte, venceremos! -- with a free Cuba, listeners didn't laugh. They winced.

Castro has closed his speeches with the phrase -- in English, ''Fatherland or death, we shall overcome'' -- for decades. ***

Mitt Romney is an embarassment (Chris Guy - 3/19/2007 5:28:22 PM)
to politics in general. There's phonies, there's pandering, and then there's Mitt.

Every time he walks or talks you can hear the clopping of flip-flops (PM - 3/19/2007 5:36:08 PM)

Jeb! looks like an idiot right now (Chris Guy - 3/19/2007 9:40:18 PM)
Romney is his guy, all of his former staffers are flocking to him. Jeb is married to a hispanic woman and he's fluent in spanish himself, and Mitt does this in his backyard.

Got two by Ari Fleischer (PM - 3/19/2007 8:10:48 PM)

2 Dec 2002 White House spokesman Ari Fleischer declares: "If he declares he has none [WMDs], then we will know that Saddam Hussein is once again misleading the world."

And this one made my head hurt:

9 Jul 2003 White House spokesman Ari Fleischer somehow manages to say with a straight face: "Saddam Hussein had biological and chemical weapons that were unaccounted for that we're still confident we'll find. I think the burden is on those people who think he didn't have weapons of mass destruction to tell the world where they are... just because they haven't yet been found doesn't mean they didn't exist. The burden is on the critics to explain where the weapons of mass destruction are. If they think they were destroyed, the burden is on them to explain when he destroyed them and where he destroyed them."

Thanks Chris. May I add another of her's? (Dianne - 3/20/2007 7:29:36 AM)
Back in 2002, Hutchison and John Kerry were guests on the afternoon talk show Crossfire (hosted by Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson).  The topic discussion turned to the viability of and timeline for getting oil from Anwar. When I heard her "understanding" of the usefulness of Anwar, I almost fell out of my chair laughing....
http://transcripts.c...

KERRY: The fundamental issue is energy. Let me point something out. You're not going to get one drop of oil out of ANWAR until possibly 2010. That's 10 years from now.

HUTCHISON: That's not true.

KERRY: Yes it is true. Don't throw the war around.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: How soon would we get it?

HUTCHISON: In a year. If we start now.

BEGALA: The executive from Exxon Mobil testified, senator, that it be 6 to 8 years and I think that he was spinning us. It will be 7 to 10 at the minimum. That's what Exxon says.

KERRY: Right now today as we...

HUTCHISON: It will take one year to get started and to start bringing in the oil that will...

You'd think someone from Texas (Chris Guy - 3/20/2007 8:29:44 AM)
would know a little more about issues dealing with the petroleum industry.

Bush is from Texas (well, Connecticut actually) (Lowell - 3/20/2007 8:34:25 AM)
and he never found a drop of oil there, as hard as he tried.

We're being kind to Bush on this thread (PM - 3/20/2007 8:55:42 AM)
In the last few days I've seen lists of stupid things he has said.

But I think he's in a separate category.

According to OpenSecrets.... (Dianne - 3/20/2007 9:43:21 AM)
She was the top recipient of contributions from the oil industry! http://www.opensecre...  to the tune of almost $300K!

...in 2006, sorry for the omission. (Dianne - 3/20/2007 9:44:26 AM)
But she's been receiving mucho funds from them for years....

So, promoting war for oil revenue? (PM - 3/20/2007 10:17:38 AM)

Cover phrases and propaganda (Rebecca - 3/20/2007 5:23:47 PM)
One must always remember that Republicans speak in propaganda and doublespeak.

Bringing freedom to other countries: Opressing other countries for imperialist reasons

Fighting them over there and not over here: Creating more enemies all over the world.

Supporting the troops: Neglecting the veterans and exhausting active duty troops. Using the Guard for purposes for which they are not equipt which causes more casualties.

Tightening national secuity: Revoking your civil rights while using the security agengies as a cover for illegal arms deals (such as nuclear arms deals)

They smile and cover it all with cute little catch phrases.

One thing to remember:

Governments LIE.
