Stars Aligning for Del Toro

Mark Cole's worst nightmare, aka Carlos Del Toro, has some seriously big events coming up in the weeks and months ahead. The first of which is a star-studded fundraiser to be held at the home of Bob and Mary Ann Hovis in Oakton, VA on March 26. The Hovises are big-time Democratic fundraisers who have gone to bat for some of the biggest names in politics. The fact that they've taken an interest in the Del Toro campaign shows just how big this movement is becoming.

In addition to House Democratic Caucus Chair Del. Brian Moran, who's taken a keen interest in Carlos' campaign, Norman Mineta is slated to appear as well. For those who don't know, a little something about one of the most prolific, and successful Asian Americans in our country's history...
Mineta, who was born and raised in California, was sent to a Japanese internment camp in Wyoming as a child. Years later, he would become the first Asian-American to ever be elected Mayor of a major U.S. city in San Jose, CA. As a member of the House of Representatives, where he served with distinction for two decades, he co-founded and chaired the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. His civil rights record as a member of Congress earned him the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemerative Medal. In the year 2000, Pres. Clinton made him the first Asian American to serve in the cabinet, as Secretary of Commerce. He stayed in the White House in the years that followed as Bush's Transportation Secretary. Just days after 9/11, Secretary Mineta issued an order prohibiting airports from using the practice of racial profiling.

Carlos will be formidible! (CADeminVA - 3/10/2007 9:05:26 PM)
His campaign kickoff on Sunday 3/4 was boffo. He is a terrifc candidate. We will be working hard to ensure his victory!

Now, if we can just find someone similar to run against Bill Howell. As Brian Moran said last week, too bad we can't clone Carlos!
